Clark & Dearborn Bike Lane Rush Only 1970's!

Does anyone have any photos or info about bike only lanes that ran down Clark and Dearborn in the 1970's?

Anything would be great, thanks!

"In May 1971, Daley unveiled a 34-mile bicycle route, and, in August 1972, he inaugurated rush-hour bicycle lanes on Clark and Dearborn Streets. During the 1970s, soaring gas prices and heightened concern about energy and air pollution bolstered public support for Daley's bicycling programs. " -…

Fox / Illinois River Tour

Just set up the start of a northern IL State park ride. Almost more of a Fox/Illinois river tour. All I have to do now is figure out if I want to ride the same route back or try and find more parks to visit on the way home. This will be a good prep run before I try the Great Lakes tour I've been planning. I wonder how much hassle it would be if I tried this on my beach cruiser :-) I just love that thing.…

Bike the Drive -- stories about past involvement

Hi,

I'm writing a story about Bike the Drive, and would like to gather some stories about people's involvement with Bike the Drive in recent years. If you're interested in contributing a story (one sentence to a paragraph in length), please email me at dgodston@gmail.com, with "Bike the Drive" in the subject line of your email.

Thanks,

Dan

Green Festival

Although you can get in free by riding your bike to the Green Festival at Navy Pier May 22-23, you may not know why you should go. Here are some reasons.

1. Reduce, reuse and repurpose.

Get the best methods and tools for reducing your home and business waste, conserve resources, source reusable products and repurpose all that stuff you’ve stored away.

2. Learn what new green careers await you.

That to which we should all aspire...

From Mail on-line:

It was six decades ago that Owen Hook fell in love with the shining bicycle in his local department store window. But today, the Raleigh push bike is still going strong. Mr Hook, 72, who paid for the top-of-the-range, three-speed Raleigh bike in 36 monthly installments of just ten shillings (50p) 57…

Chicagoland Bicycle Map volunteerism

Phew, just finished my work for Active Trans' Chicagoland Bicycle Map. Rode 30 miles of "section 31", plus planning, meeting, and data updates, took like 20hrs. Lots of new bike lanes around, hope some of my changes make it in the 2010 product. The whole map is some 500 times my area; total labor must be huge, and understaffed.…

Just bought a vintage folder.

I just happily bought an old folding bike at a neighborhood sale. It's single speed, 20", dual brakes, generator lights, Italian, vintage. Front tire marked Pirelli, headset marked Guizzardi.
Slight variations were reportedly sold under several names including Cinzia, Hyda-Bike, Barbarellas, Safari, Bianchi.

This particular model was custom built for "K.T.C. in Alsip" and most closely resembles a… Continue

The 2009 Door County Century Met Expectations

This year's Door County Century ride was held Sunday September 13th. This annual ride starts from Sevastopol High School in Institute, Wisconsin, and provides a coast-to-coast scenic tour of Wisconsin's beautiful Door County Peninsula. This event marked the 30th anniversary of the ride, which along with great weather conditions contributed to a bumper turnout of around 1,700 riders. To mark the occasion the…
