The Chainlink

You blew the red light east bound on Lawrence at Damen at 5:26 pm this evening.

There was enough time for the biker in front of me to make it half way into the intersection, northbound on Damen, before you came whizzing past my front wheel.

I yelled "You're an idiot!" at your big haired chick, self, and you looked back at me. I meant it!

I woulda testified for any of the cars, that managed to not kill you, if they had.

Keep riding like a tard!

love,

gabe

Witness bad behavior during your commute? Feel free to post. Maybe that lovely human can read it and think they are famous. Maybe you can also inspire the whole generation of kids to shower but we can start with small things.

I can't imagine any delivery driver wants to drive a truck in rush hour and doing so must add at least an hour or two to a delivery route. So restrict deliveries to outside of 7-9am and 4-6pm just like rush hour parking. Also limit the size of delivery trucks allowed into more congested areas. I regularly see 18-wheelers on Illinois Ave downtown.

I'm with you on all of that.

That protected lane on Clybourn is an abortion mixed with a nightmare. Trucks continue to park at the entrance going southbound. The lane itself is in a deplorable state. Rocks, glass, paved with different materials so as not to be smooth in any way. But the best so far was a SUV that passed a cargo van doing the posted limit of 30 mph (it is still a construction zone after all). The SUV was honking like crazy then finally moved into the oncoming traffic lane and floored it. Gotta say, the little curb "protecting" cyclists will do nothing if an SUV hits it at full bore.  YAY insane humans!

Not to mention BMW drivers using it as a passing lane!

Unbelievable.

Yet another in an endless series of STOOPID human tricks. *headdesk*

One thing that makes me crazy about all of the bike lanes the city is creating is the lack of adequate signage about vehicles being prohibited and the penalties. There are signs for loading zones, parking, snow days, etc but nothing about bike lanes.

Are signs going to prevent all asshat behavior? No. But it might educate a few more people, give some of them pause, and some people may even decide to follow the law.

Yes Cheryl, you are right. Signs - we need signs !

I think he just got lost there. Didn't make the same mistake again, though that Lincoln nearly blocking the next protected lane was kind of annoying.

Yesterday I was standing by City hall at a red light.  Traffic was heavy and  vehicles  were  moving slowly.  A woman wearing headphones was sauntering through the intersection, the same intersection where I was waiting to cross. She was looking daggers at the drivers as she passed against  the light. When she got to the corner I told her that the drivers were not the problem but that she was crossing against the light. She the started to yell at me, "You don't know  me."  etc. I tried to point out that she was not the only person in the world and that she would hold up traffic and the entire intersection would become gridlocked because of her but her anger baited me and I got sucked into an argument that I regret. The sense of entitlement annoys me and I have to learn how to handle it better. That being said, I really doubt a teaching moment would have  have happened. She was not open to such a thing.

Reminds me of the time - years ago - I was biking to work via the lakepath.

I saw a woman standing smack dab in the middle of the path, effectively straddling both northbound and southbound lanes. She had a small dog on a leash, huddled against her as if sensing that this was a really unsafe place to be.

The woman was doing nothing but standing there with a real defiant look on her face as if challenging anybody to say something, and I did unfortunately. As I drew abreast of her I sarcastically said, "This seems like a REAL smart place to stand!"

Before I had even finished that sentence, she started screaming, "I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE HERE NOBODY CAN MAKE  ME MOVE" etc etc.

I didn't hear the rest and I wasn't able to respond to her because I was still cycling away.

People be crazy.

Reminds me of two fellas that were walking down the middle of the lane just north of the Fullerton Project in an altered state walking like crazy Ivan’s forcing bikes and pedestrians to try to guess where they were going. Old man on a beach cruiser almost slam into me on as they scared him. I called out DUDE to one of them and his wild eyes and big ass laughing mouth told me to continue on.

Sad that there are a-holes that feel it is okay to cause trouble just for the sake of causing trouble.
