I didn't see another mention of this here...
Rapid Transit- serving us for the last 21 years- is closing :( I was surprised and saddened to see this announcement last night. http://www.rapidtransitcycles.com
from their page:
To our Customers and Supporters:
We’re sorry to announce that Rapid Transit Cycleshop will be closing after 21 years at the corner of North & Wolcott. Both the Wicker Park, and the UIC location will close some time before the end of the year.
Rapid Transit has been our labor of love and an amazing, unforgettable adventure. We’ve been privileged to work with talented and dedicated people throughout the years who helped make the shop a neighborhood institution. We are deeply grateful to all our customers who supported us over the last two decades. And we’re honored to have been a part of Chicago’s cycling landscape as it grew and evolved over the years.
We will be busy this winter planning our next adventure. Who knows what the future holds?

I was very sad to hear this news. I've bought 2 bikes from them (a folder and a recumbent) and they've been great help for quirky issues specific to those bike models. I will miss both shops. I wish Justyna and Chris well and hope their next adventure will be a good one.
Thanks, Anne. You've been a loyal supporter for many years, and we sincerely appreciate that.
It is sad to see that shop go. I worked there for a number of years and met many great people in that time. Employees who have worked there continue to be a major part of Chicago's cycling community. I am thankful for the time I spent there and have many fond memories. Cheers to all and best of luck to C&J in the future,
Much Love,
Tiny Chris Sutphen
Thanks, TC. Perhaps our paths will cross again.
ANY ONE HAVE A DATE WHEN THE UIC LOCATION WILL CLOSE
Not yet. Please watch this page http://www.rapidtransitcycles.com/our-stores/. I will be posting updates as they develop. Thanks for your support.
Sad to see the bike shop close. I bought my first commuter (a Kona) from Rapid Transit in Wicker Park as well as all of my locks.
Very heartbreaking to hear and will be very sad to see that space no longer support the cycling community.
Thank you!!! (... and please don't feel guilty). It's customers like you -- who value and appreciate the work that we do -- who make this such a hard decision.
