There's something to be said for a good old pair or 27's and a Chromoly frame. Current ride is a Centurion Elite RS. Sorry no photos, but we'll probably see each other out on the streets right?
I think old steel bikes are a great value. For what you would pay for a new bike with a cheap alum frame and low end components, you can buy an 80's era steel with top end components of the day. There is also a certain nostalgic beauty to the steel bikes and there is no alum bike that I've ridden that can compare to the feel of a steel frame.

I had a red '89 RB-1 that got basically wrecked in a near-dooring incident. I still keep the frame around, hoping that it may live again in some form one day.

Also working on a 1986 Panasonic DX3000 rebuild; recently scored an 82 Trek 614 touring model with a Reynolds 531 frame, Suntour Cyclone MII derailleurs and all the goodies.
I have always ridden steel bikes, and have quite an affinity for the '80s-era Japanese rides. My first 10 speed was a Japanese C.Itoh, then I upgraded to a Fuji. These days, the Japanese fleet consists of an '87 Miyata 912, a Bridgestone 500, and a B'stone X0-1. Today, I've been getting my '74 Raleigh Super Tourer ready for Saturday's tweed ride. I also ride and loooove an '89 Dave Moulton Fuso Lux.
And all that being said, I don't have ONE bike from this century!
All of my vintage iron from this time period I've had since new. That includes a 1970 Robin Hood Lenton Sport, a 1973 Raleigh Super Course 3 speed fixed gear, a seventysomething Gitane with a ShimaNO Alfine, a 1983 Miyata 710, a 1991 Miyata 600GT, and a 1991 Miyata Carbon Tech 3000 fixed gear. The last one is non-ferrous, but it fits the time period.
Everything else I have dates from the fifties, sixties, and the two thousand aughts.

I ride a a Yoshi Konno-built Specialized Allez. I think it's from 1983.
This had a cracked non-drive-side rear dropout which I repaired by brazing a steel plug into it unifying the dropout. This is also the first frame I powder coated. The fork is from a Raleigh made from 531. I removed the steerer tube mechanically and brazed in a longer one, and added 3mm of rack. I also fillet brazed cantilevartr brake studs that I cut out from a POS bike found in the old Rat Patrol pile at Bubble Dynamics. Cleaned up the look of the frame by removing some of the cable guides.
