PeopleForBikes is announcing the fifth annual National Bike Challenge which starts on Sunday, May 1.

The Challenge will unite 100,000+ bicycle riders to pedal 75 million miles from May 1, 2016 until September 30, 2016.  It is an online platform, free for everyone to use to log their miles and celebrate riding, while finding inspiration to ride more often. The Challenge brings together tens of thousands of people who bike across the country who share a love of bicycling.
Be part of The Chainlink team: https://nationalbikechallenge.org/team/9812
You can automatically log miles on an app such as Strava or Map My Ride so you can easily sync it up so that it automatically updates their miles in the National Bike Challenge. When you log in, you just need to go to Manage Settings (left hand navigation bar) and scroll down to the Apps section to sync Strava.
This is super easy to be a part of it!
2. Ride your Bike!
3. Set up your auto logging of miles or enter your miles every day you ride.
4. Come back to this thread and post pics and your comments about the challenge.
5. Invite your friends to join us for the National Bike Challenge.
Woot!

Fair enough, pretty sure I joined it just takes a minute for it all to sync up!

Glad you are joining us!
Yes, I've noticed members and miles take a little time to show up. My Garmin syncs to my Map My Ride right away but doesn't show up on this account until the next day.

Just a thought... (because it'd be great to have you on our team)... Map My Ride allows you to add it with an automatic sync from Garmin Connect so you don't have to make a switch. If you have a different bike computer, I'm guessing it will sync with that as well. I really like Map My Ride for finding routes and tracking miles. And now it syncs to the National Bike Challenge really easily.

Amen to that.  Until I get a Garmin 1000, I'm entering manually via Cateye Strada Double Wireless. :->

I really love my Garmin 1000. I think you'll like it. I've recently begun taking advantage of the turn-by-turn route directions and find it very helpful.

How often do you have to download the map update?  Is it like the Garmin Nuvi where you check for update once a year?

Agree that manually entering means nothing accruing. I have been using a Suunto watch for the past nine months and it links from Suunto's page to Strava.  Like Yasmeen my miles will eventually appear with me doing nothing  more than  periodically plugging  the watch into  my computer which is  how I often charge it. I never found  Strava worthwhile  when simply using a phone  as my phone drains too quickly when the GPS is used.

Just joined up! The website, as others have said, is a bit funky in that it doesn't display accurate percentages (Apparently my rides are 100% recreation despite being listed otherwise), but it does load the data into the competition page well despite my profile display being borked. But it really doesn't matter because it works well enough and the website isn't the point.  I'm just enjoying seeing a number that corresponds to my ride to work every day!

Thanks for creating the challenge!

The site seems to have updated. Proportions are now correct and calculated statistics update in real time.

First week is going strong!

Great job everyone! According to our page, we are ranked 39th overall and 8th for our our team size. We are also leading the local Elk Grove challenge by quite a bit. Our team is now 35 people and is continuing to grow. Thanks for joining Chainlink's team! If you haven't yet sent me your information for the t-shirt, please send me your t-shirt size, full name, and address to yasmeen@thechainlink.org. I may need to do another t-shirt order so it may be a few weeks until the t-shirts are ready. I'm also planning on doing some fun challenges for other swag e.g. water bottles, etc. Have a great weekend!!

First Swag Challenge!
Get those camera phones ready! Where is the challenge taking you? To work? Trader Joe's? A beautiful ride in the country? Fun rides with friends? Now's your chance to show us what you've been up to as you've been racking up those miles on your bike. Between now and May 22, post those ride photos to this thread.

Share your story, location, details with the photo too! I'll pick highlights to share in upcoming newsletters and winners will receive a Chainlink (Specialized) water bottle and be Internet famous. :-)

My Commute Home on a beautiful, summery Friday in Chicago. Rode from downtown Chicago back Home to beautiful Berwyn, IL via Route 66 (Ogden Ave). This photo was taken on the Home Stretch as I entered Berwyn.
