Dings, Scratches, Marks, Chips, Worn Spots. - Bicycle Frame Protection ?

http://www.allmountainstyle.com/blogs/news/9697008-ams-honeycomb-fr...

I'm noticing that when I lock up, my frame is starting to get kinda scratched up at the points of contact. I don't want my baby to look all messed up. Does anyone have any recommendations for this problem. I've seen some things online but want to know what you think. Thanxs

Q: Why don't you just get another Lizard Skin chainstay to match and put it on the other side?

Got these in blanks clear color (white):  http://www.dickblick.com/products/headline-stick-on-vinyl-letters-a...

I use an Abus Bordo X-Plus lock (the old one) which has very hard plastic covering the steel and these vinyl sheets are covering the seat-tube, top tube, and down tube on all my bikes, and forks on some.

Works well and last a long time, too.

I also bought the black ones to change the look of one of my bike.

Do you have a rear rack? When I lock my bike the point of contact to the bike rack is the rear rack.

I used an old tube and just put my Kryptonite through it, proving a not-super-thick-and-sturdy but definitely reasonable about of rubber barrier

I use clear plastic packing tape.

When I do get chips in my bike's paint, I stop at an auto supply house like O'Reilly's and get Dupli-Color touch-up paint in my bike's shade.  You can get some pretty close matches.  Automotive grade paint withstands weather and Dupli-Color has both color coat and clear coat.

When I get chips and scratches. I borrow my wife's nail polish. It doesn't match. It's ugly as hell. I like it.

Eventually, my entire bike will be sparkly purple.

Fun! I do the same thing, except for the part about the nail polish belonging to the wife and the non color matching part. I brought the frame into a drug store to find a nearly matching shade of red. It looked great in the store but it seems to dry as a red with more blue in it than I would like.

I'm thinking of wrapping the most scratch prone areas with used tire tube and then perhaps spray painting that.

I second helicopter tape.  Much better than packing tape.  It's my understanding it was developed to protect the leading edges of helicopter blades.  It sticks well, is totally transparent, and is very durable.  I use it on all my bikes where they lean against racks.

I've occasionally used clear nail polish for deep dings - nearly invisible.
