Folks,

Chainlinkers have been a big help with compiling Newcity's annual transportation-related holiday gift guide, telling me about clever gift ideas such as a Malört water bottle.

Here are the gift guides from 2012 and 2013:

What locally produced gifts for walking, biking, and transit enthusiasts should we include this year?

Thanks!

Hey John!  I would be remiss if I didn’t mention gift memberships with our beloved local bike, ped and transit advocacy group!

What could be finer than a gift that benefits our community by:

  • encouraging more people to bike, walk, and take transit
  • urging our political leaders to build more bike lanes and trails
  • educating thousands of our neighbors about safe cycling
  • winning legislation that protects the rights of all road users

There’s my shameless plug for the day; you can give a gift membership by noting the recipients’ contact info in the comments field on www.activetrans.org/membershp.  Plus, all gifts are 100% tax-deductible!

Thanks Kevin. As a bonus, an Active Trans membership gets you discounts at local bike shops and other businesses.

A holiday balaclava will help your gift recipient whether they are riding their bike, walking to  the bus or dropping the blade of a guillotine. It's the lightweight and  practical accessory that will bring comfort when pulled from the stocking of denizens of the tundra from Hazelcrest to Harvard and we haven't even begun to discuss sexy...

Sexy? Every try necking in balaclavas? Thanks David.

We got some awesome bike gifts for our wedding last year from a bunch of Chainlinkers.

Here are 2 kinds of glasses that we love.

Nice. Who makes these?

Last call! Any more gift suggestions? Thanks!

United Airlines (Chicago-based) one-way tickets to someplace warm would make a thoughtful gift right about now.

Paper source used to make the thinner ones. Apparently they don't anymore.
A ticket with free bike shipping to FL or CA!

Three ideas from The Recyclery:

Recyclery Gift Cards: For a used bike, sweet upgrades at Open Shop, or a complete Overhaul Class!

Jay Ryan Posters: We still have some of these signed and numbered prints.

Bike Cog T-shirts: Beautiful bike cog Made-in-the-USA shirts.
