Hi all,

I know hashtag campaigns don't have a very good rep, but I have found that tweeting and facebooking things to companies can be somewhat effective. In that vein, I'm sure you've all noticed how many cars park in bike lanes with no fear of enforcement, and I thought it might be good if we could start tweeting pictures of cars in bike lanes to @ChicagoDOT @ChicagosMayor and @Chicago_Police and using the hashtag #enforce940060 (the municipal code about cars in bike lanes). We can subscribe to it and easily retweet eachothers pictures. Maybe we can be annoying enough to get this law enforced?
Here's my inaugural tweets on the tag

I posted a picture of a van driving in the bike path at the Devon and Milwaukee forest preserve to the Cook County Forest Preserve Facebook page.  They responded and asked me to call, which I did.  Social media when used properly has a lot of power IMO.

I am not usually on twitter but I might just do this since I see it all the time.

It is worth a shot.

Try adding #bikechi to it, as well, it is somewhat popular amongst us #bikechi'ers on the ol' Twitters. Might reach some more people.

Excellent idea. A friend in Toronto has done similar, with some positive (but usually mixed) results.

Better than just muttering or worse, getting hit going around the car.

Glad some people like the idea. Here's another

I'm a twitter newbie, so if you guys can retweet what I have so far, we can reach a wider audience.

The Harrison/Canal PBL fall into the 25th Ward, so I'm going to include Alderman Solis' office too.

Can't hurt.

Timely. I don't have a Twitter account, but I took these two photos this afternoon on Milwaukee Ave, both between Grand and Chicago. In the second one, the woman is parked about 5 feet from the entrance to a CVS parking lot, just talking on the phone.

Hm, finally a use for my twitter account

Good idea.

I don't like any cars in the bike lane, but situations like this really irk me.  So many times I'll see a car in the lane and notice an open space just ahead or behind them.  Its usually a yellow curb, but if you're going to park or stand illegally, at least do it in the space that doesn't block traffic.

I'm all for this. If nothing else, when people spot you taking pictures of their illegal parking jobs they tend to move. Though I hope someone has a wide angle lens to capture the entire street across from the Greyhound Station.

I will definitely be joining in this effort!

Thanks for the photos Kathleen. I put em up here
