The plows left a couple of new potholes on Northbound Clark St. this week. Pictured above is on the 4800 North block, and there's a real fork-bender on the 2500 North block as well. Heads up out there!

There is a doozy of one on Milwaukee that I saw while driving in - unfortunately not much can be done when it is this cold out.

That's exactly what I'm expecting. The pavement on my block looked crappy last summer. I can hardly wait to see how cratered is in the spring.

Expect the worst road conditions in decades this Spring.

Southbound Milwaukee at Augusta is a minefield.

Going west bound on Hubbard has become really
rough, with the occasional crater thrown in for good measure.

So, time to start buying selling mountain bikes? :)

Not sure about the overall efficiency of this service, but the city has an online "Submit Pothole" form. http://311request.cityofchicago.org/reports/new?service_id=4fd3b656...

My interaction with the service was mixed. The official report said "no potholes found", but work was obviously done in the area. Here is the instance of it: http://servicetracker.cityofchicago.org/requests/13-01542703. It might have been better to submit as a sinkhole, which is a separate form. As of today there is a steel plate over the hole, but some other (possibly related) work has been completed nearby.

Easy way to report them is with the app SeeClickFix:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.seeclickfix.ma.an...

Also available on Windows, Apple, and Blackberry.

It's nice, you can take pictures, GPS a location, leave a comment, etc.  It will issue a tracking number and will automatically send the info out the locally appropriate people (Streets & San, Alderman, and other listeners of the feed for that area).

Northbound Halsted between North Ave and Fullerton has about 10-12 potholes that are at least a square foot in size. They're almost all just to the left of the bike lane. The problem is the curb ice has most cars parked into the bike lane so you have to ride to the left of the bike lane to stay out of the door zone. Keep your eyes open. Most drivers were cool with me riding further left than usual last night but some are in the usual hurry going nowhere.

edit: I did report to the city online this morning.

There is a particularly epic pothole on SB Milwaukee just south of Diversey/Kimball - it's more like a channel, about 4-5 feet wide, 9-12 inches across and ~6 inches deep.

Not exactly related, but I thought this was interesting: http://www.fox11online.com/weather/ice-quake-causes-100-foot-long-d...

I've used it to make a bunch of 311 reports this week. And I'm sure I'll be making many more in the coming weeks.

I put a 311 request in today since if anything it is getting worse! Finding that narrow ribbon of pavement as cars pass on the right and on the left is quite sporty!
