Milwaukee is a mixed bag. There's salt out, but the sides of the road are pretty slippery at points, so I ended up taking the lane quite a bit. My commute from Logan Square is usually 25 minutes. Today it was 35.

Wabash, 18th Western are good, but folks doing bridge painting on northern half of Ogden / western bridge. Cars were also driving more erratic today. Had lots of folks bobbing into the bike lane.

Talking to another guy at the office who rides this morning. He fell yesterday as well, whacked his head, sprained his wrist, and got a cut on his forehead.

This reminded me... If you fall and your helmet hits the ground, at least inspect it for problems. Bike helmets are designed to be single use, so it might be better to err on the safe side and get a new one, even if you don't see any obvious evidence of damage.

My ride was mostly clear of ice, with more slush and puddles. I noticed some patches of ice near the curb. Neighborhood side streets and my alley were still iced over.

I ended up taking the 'L' today because there were still some reports of ice. Overall, streets looked okay — sidewalks still iced over, though. No idea how the Lake Front Trail is.

Elston protected lanes still really bad this morning. Passed a guy who was standing on the side. I thought he was having bike problems, so I stopped. Turns out he was having "I think I broke my collar bone" problems. Unfortunately, I don't have a patch kit for that.

Clever.

If you survive Bike Fall, Bike Winter is a breeze!

I made it home without incident last night but in the fresh snow I did see an imprint where someone skidded, fell, and then continued on the trail.  Hope they are all right.

This morning the trail was crunchy with salt all the way in to North Avenue.  Did they clear off the snow south of Oak Street for this morning?

I planned to ride and before laying out my clothing last night decided to log in to TCL.  I read all the reports of slipping and sliding posted by veteran riders.  I did not ride and have no regrets.

Ride home last night was slow and uneasy.

This morning was much better, some salted areas and some evaporation of the ice.

I expect more of the ice will have evaporated by tonight.

Lake Front Trail last night:
