Jana Kinsman could have been killed in Logan Square area last night by driver and pals thinking they're funny

Basically, some dudes in a purple tahoe grabbed her while she was on her bike and pulled her along next to the car while she was screaming for her life.

Here's her twitter story, storified: http://storify.com/abughat/wtf

If anyone can get info or ideas for further help, please share! Be safe out there, friends.

I got an eyeroll and a "oh come on" from my noncycling roommate as we watched the news story.  I echoed what Jana said about just because I'm vulnerable and on a bike doesn't mean it's okay to be harassed.  If I was just walking down the sidewalk, it doesn't give a driver the right to make lewd comments at me or throw things at me and speed away just because they can.  Those guys who did that to her are cowards and sickos.

To be honest, I personally wouldn't want to be cycling in that area around that time. But that is still no excuse for what happened.

I ran into the "what's a woman doing cycling down Kimball at midnight?" argument. As if bad things don't happen during daylight. What time of day would be acceptable for a woman to cycle down Kimball? Sheesh. I didn't even respond.

I hope Jana recovers well and quickly.

I have trouble believing people will be so callous. I posted the DNA link on facebook, and one of my friends responded with "well, some bicyclists around here are just really bad and run red lights and etc..." That 'blame the victim' attitude (more than just the one post) was making me livid this morning.
I agree with the thought that I need to educate my friends, not exclude them, when they make stupid statements.

I am not sure if this has been posted yet (I am sure it has been) but a second post does not hurt. You can help Jana get back on her feet with a donation. Got $5? goes a long way to help someone who does so much for the community! Also - I heard from a mechanic at Lakeshore Bike that this happened last week in Logan Square/Humboldt to another rider who was run down intentionally, then kicked by passengers. Ride safe everyone.

My comment:   That sent a cold shiver down my back.     This would be a very bad trend to see arise and needs to be stopped now.   Does anyone know, by the way, where the CPS movies in the park were the last few weeks.  One of the movies on rotation this summer is "the goonies" in which one of the scenes depicts some guys in a truck grabbing on to someone riding a bicycle and pulling him down the road at high speed in a comic fashion.....     Could it be that some "idiots" got the idea from the Park District movie?

Yes. She deserved to be overwhelmed by kindness even before the heinous incident. She was hugely inspirational and encouraging before and is now is even more so.

I love the overwhelmed by kindness article, WELL if anyone deserves it it's definitely Jana <3

we have an opportunity to be ambassadors for a cycling lifestyle.

Unfortunately, given a few of the comments mentioned, in this case we have the opportunity to be ambassadors for basic decency. :/

I live down the block. What happened?

Wow....ridiculous...is this becoming more common?!?!  I'm glad she is "ok"...

My friend was recently assaulted while on his bike (Damen/Chicago area).  They forced him and bike to curb, got out and beat him up...in order to take his messenger bag and contents.

That always.....
