Anyone know of a good reference (book) for beginner's bicycle repAir?

Just wondering if anyone knows of one. Unable to make it to most of the open-shops in the area and haven't found any beginner's class listings upcoming.

Not a book but Sheldon Brown's website is a very common source of basic and intermediate bicycle repair knowledge for many: http://sheldonbrown.com/

I have also found the Park Tool BBB-2 book a great source of beginner knowledge (even if it's an advertisement for their awesome tools): http://www.amazon.com/Park-Tool-BBB-2-Bicycle-Repair/dp/B001B6NAW2

zinn and the art of bicycle maintenence (By Lennard Zinn) (there are versions for road bikes, mtb, tri bikes)

Also - the Big Blue book of Bicycle Repair (by Park Tools)

A friend gave me this book by Park Tools a couple years ago: Big Blue Book of Bike Repair.  I didn't think I'd use it much, but find myself pulling it off the shelf at least every month or two.  It seems well-written and has a ton of pictures, so most tasks are easy to understand.  It seems well-liked by most of the crowd on Amazon who are willing to take the time to write reviews as well.  (I admit that they might be a somewhat self-selected lot, and thus provide a somewhat systematic bias.)

Related to their book, Park Tool has very thorough repair instructions on their website.

Also, there are lots of bike repair demonstrations on YouTube.

If you have an older bike, as many of us do, there are very useful bike repair books available very cheaply on Amazon.   Two that I picked up for a few dollars each were: Sloane's New Bicycle Maintenance Manual and the Bicycling Magazine Complete Book of Bike Maintenance, both from the mid-80s.   Much easier to flip through Sloane's (the one I use the most) with greasy fingers than a laptop!

I like both of these sources.

Park Tools book is good.

Avoid YouTube instructions unless you know the source actually knows what they are doing; skip anything that is not a manufacturer...

Another vote for Zinn, and the art of road bike maintenance. The book has very helpful drawings of how parts come together.

Bicycling Magazine's Complete Guide to Bicycle Maintenance and Repair

http://www.amazon.com/Bicycling-Magazines-Complete-Maintenance-Moun...

My copy is 20 years old and I still use it, even though technology has changed considerably. It covers all the basics in simple language with photos. The link is to Amazon, but I am sure you can get copies anywhere online.

But the video of using some 2x4s and a c clamp to press in your headset is just too funny...
