Please let me know if this is a duplicate thread and I'll close this one... a few recent experiences have left me thinking it would be good to keep a video log of my ride.

Who's got experience with these and what can you recommend?

I think you should do this instead

I bought one of the Veho cameras, without the waterproof case and have tested it.  I paid $10 from the manufacturer in China.  Added a microSD card and worked with a little bit of experimentation.  It is not rated as waterproof.  So the version on dailysteals with the case might address that issue.  HOWEVER.  The video quality for a $10 product is not bad, unless you want to read the license plate of a car.  The resolution is low.  I cannot usually read the license plate information and it seems to be very choppy.  It is rated at 30fps, but it seems lower.   If you want to use the Veho for documentation of your commute, it is questionable.  The controls are very poor, the documentation is worse.   I would not spend more than $20 on this.  I would wait for the MonoPrice camera and see the reviews.    The action/sports video cam market is changing quickly and there will be affordable ($100 or less), high quality products for cycling very soon.

Mountain Bike Review, who already does the best bike light comparison reviews, IMHO, just put up this "shoot out" back-to-back comparison of six current helmet cams.  The review is dated March 13, so should be as current as anything out there.  I found it useful.  And their test rig is hilarious:

That test rig is truly geektacular.  ;)

One low-hanging tree branch and he's toast.

Naw, he needs side and rear facing cameras as well with a Google Glasses interface to aggregate the images into a 360 degree view. Now that would be way cool and very useful, too. All I have is a low tech rear view mirror attached to my helmet, which is very helpful, but its easily thrown out of alignment, especially in high winds. But for sure, nobody will ever get near this guy. He's perfectly safe, low hanging tree branches aside.

Last time I pondered anything, I put on 5 lbs and suffered anxiety attacks. Better just to get back on your bike and start rolling. You'll feel better and look better, too.

Funny, was just pondering....would one want to have the camera facing forward or toward the rear?

Or is it a "can't have just one" kind of thing....

Has anyone tried out the Monoprice action camera? It's only $100.

Woot's got a FreeStyle for $100 for the next couple days (or until sold out).

I am looking for one that can mount on a Picatinney rail system (Mil Std 1913).

I have them on the side of my helmet.

Dash Cam review on Jalopnik

Looks like a good option if you can mount it

records in a loop, motion activated start/stop, cheap...

Sorry, I overlooked your question. Here is a link to a video I recorded of a taxi using a PBL. The quality decreased a bit after uploading it to Vimeo.

I chose this camera mostly because of its size. It is a bit wider than a Knog Boomer light but it is still pretty noticeable, especially after connecting it to the Minoura camera mount. It seems like a lot of peds glance at it as I pass. I felt silly for the first few rides having it on my handlebars but that faded quickly, now I use it all the time with no shame. It must be pretty water resistant as I've ridden almost every day in April and it still works.

ExFat is the preferred format.

Thanks, Eric. I'm a mac user so I expect I wouldn't have the reformat problem.

Got any video to offer up? There's not a lot out there on this specific model.  How did you choose it?
