For a local magazine's Top 5 issue, what do you think were the top 5 bike-related news stories of 2012?

For bonus points, what you you think were the top 5 walking stories?

The top 5 transit stories?

Thanks!

In no particular order:

Biking:

- Dearborn PBL

- Increased use of plates on bridges

- On-street bike parking has become more common

Walking Stories

- Development of people spaces encourages people to meet in public spots.
- LPI's are now widely used.

Transit Stories:

- UP-N renovation is well underway.

- Construction of new station at Ravenswood has begun

- Announcement of Ventra

- High(er) speed Amtrak slowly becomes a reality in Illinois

These transit stories would be at the top of my list:
* Introduction of Jeffery Jump and plans for bus rapid transit on more routes

* CTA's plan to shut down red line on south side for reconstruction, and revamp 95th St. station

I can't think of five. Here's a few that haven't been mentioned:

  • Chicago hosted The Cycle Messenger World Championships
  • Speed camera developments & "safety zones" (although that'll probably be a bigger story in 2013)
  • Chicago Cyclocross Cup New Year's Resolution race brought world class racers and was the the first UCI certified CX race in the CCC.

Thanks folks! Keep 'em coming...
