This new bike lock may make it difficult to steal a bike.  The handlebars come off to use as a lock, and there's a back tire lock that's part of the frame.  It would take awhile to cut (for some), and it would be difficult to steer without handle bars (for some).  Pretty nifty idea.  I first wondered about the weight issue with the back lock, but then realized there is no u-lock needed.

Clever idea.  I like this one, too.
Nice computer modelling

Might make sense for fixie riders but I have too much crap on my bars...  Also, I imagine the handle bars lock would be hollow tubing and trivial to cut.  And the resulting bike would still be fairly rideable and easily retrofitted with standard bars after the theft.

A lockable S&S style frame coupler could solve those problems but would making locking up more difficult.   Might be worthwhile though if cordless angle grinders continue to gain popularity with bike thieves.

How about this lock?

Thought it was neat!

Industrial designer Michael Lambourn has an idea that might help reduce bicycle theft: integrate a dye pack, like the kinds built into some fire alarm pulls and clothing tags, that that explodes and covers the bicycle and thief in loud purple dye.

I've been an electrician for a couple decades who has done a LOT of fire alarm work over the years.  Never once seen a fire alarm pull that had dye in it.  It's something they tell kids but it isn't real.  Not everything you learned in school is right ;)

What about cleaning up your bike afterward, too?  Plus, the sidewalk or wherever...  Would be funny to see a bunch of paint explosions all over the city.

I like the combo of pinhead type skewers and a good u-lock (the new york fuhgeddabout it).  Not perfect but in terms of ease and weight, it's solid for me.  Knock on wood.
