I just picked up two books from the Logan Square library:

I REFUSE to give any money towards Scott Rowan.  I will be so curious to hear your reactions after reading that book Steven.

I got the book from the library. So they already paid him ;)

Sure.  I'm in.  I'll do a refresher on Traffic to start.  I'll also suggest another book: Pedal Power - The Quiet Rise of the Bicycle in American Public Life by J. Harry Wray.  That one is part transportation, part political science.

Doing a search on the Rowan/Rubin book only shows one copy available from CPL (currently checked out), so I'll have to wait on that one, as I have no desire to give any money to Scott Rowan either.

I would like to read Pedal Power, too. And Jeff Mapes's "Pedaling Revolution".

I've got the library's only copy of the Rubin/Rowan book ;)

I'll be returning Pedaling Revolution to Sulzer library in a few days. Sorry about all the Cheetos smears, dog ears and ripped pages.

My current read is Bike for Life, How to Ride to 100.  Am learning so much!  and I also ordered Pedaling Revolution through eBay...no mention of Cheetos smears ;)

My current loans from the Evanston Public Library:

Dave Glowacz, "Urban Bikers' Tricks & Tips"

Robert Hurst, "The Art of Urban Cycling"

Trudy E. Bell, "The Essential Bicycle Commuter"

Vanderbilt's "Traffic" is a really good choice

If you really don't want to give money to Mr. Rowan they probably have used copies in Amazon.

I'm so in!  But since I like people, maybe we can also do a get-together for those in the area sometime?

I really liked Lance Armstrong's book It's Not About The Bike and Immortal Class.

All you biking bookworms out there, come join us for a free book release party for the new bike essay anthology "On Bicycles," edited by Amy Walker, next Thursday, December 8, 8 pm at Cole's, 2338 N. Milwaukee. Greg Borzo and I will be reading our chapters:

That book rules! For those not in the know, Richard Ballentine also founded Bicyle Magazine.

I got indoctrinated by the original edition of Richard's Bicycle Book (1972).  I would still recommend it highly.  We already knew back then that relying more on human powered transportation could greatly improve our quality of life.  It saddens me to think how long it has taken this idea to get any traction at all, and even now, what a small minority of the population we transportation cyclists still are (in the US, anyway).

It doesn't have to be each branch, but a few would be good.

I need to figure out how to take this book club to the next (virtual) level. I don't have the resources to make it an in-person book club. I was thinking that I would just make a post every two weeks or so indicating where I'm at in the book and express whatever I like/dislike/found interesting/disinteresting about it.

If you guys like I'll contact CPL and see if they can add a copy of Pedal Power to each branch :-)
