The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

Kinzie and Dearborn.

This is pretty good. Maybe Chance the Rapper has an extra million for plungers? http://www.bicycling.com/culture/advocacy/someone-in-kansas-created...

From DNA Info this AM.

"Charles Billows, the director of security for the city's Department of Finance, which is charged with enforcing parking laws, said the city would step up efforts to ticket vehicles that block bicycle lanes.

About 15 traffic enforcement aides already patrol the city on bicycles, Billows said. Another 20 will be hired in the coming months, Billow told the council."

So, do I have to call 311 once a day to report 7 vehicles, or do I have to make 7 311 calls to have an effect? 1300 tickets in 2016 by 15 traffic aides??? Did they sit in Starbucks all day? As posted in this thread, I see an average of 3 vehicles illegally parked in a ten minute span each day. I imagine that I'd see 10 to 15 in an hour if I cruised the one mile of Franklin St downtown.

When I become mayor, I'm going to let the traffic aides get a cut of the ticket fee. Like 10%.

If that plan works I might become a traffic aide myself. I'd make $30 a day just on my commute downtown!

In the southbound Elston lane this morning.... guessing this is due to the winds yesterday.

Where to park?

Real winners. ;)

I would complain to the non-profit organization that had their sidewalk shoveled out into the bike lane, but... given the good work they're doing that needs support and the fact that they bothered to shovel the snow at all (most hadn't yet) it doesn't seem quite like the right thing to worry about this year. So, instead I'll just put this here.

I'm sort of...more amazed that the bike lane itself appears to have been plowed? :)

You really should say something... It's no different than people that just shovel the snow into the street.

At the very least send an email to the business.
