Alderman injured in bizarre cycling accident

Alderman Howard Brookins of the 21st Ward was seriously injured in a cycling accident on the Cal-Sag Trail.  Looking at the photo, it appears that a squirrel jumped right into his front wheel, jamming the wheel and sending Mr. Brookins over the handlebars.

I guess these kinds of things happen more than one would think.  I hope Mr. Brookins makes a speedy and full recovery.  I also feel sorry for that poor squirrel.

Scary stuff. I've had plenty of close calls with squirrels over the years. I once ran over a squirrel accidentally on a path. Awful. It kept darting back and forth. I was trying to avoid it, then it ran in front of me at the last second. 

I hope that Alderman Brookins is able to make a good recovery.

Sorry to hear. I hope the alderman is ok and makes a full recovery. 

I do feel badly for that squirrel. That must have been a pretty awful way to die. Yesterday I had a squirrel jump out in front of me and I yelled and it ran away. So relieved. This is a fear of mine - squirrel running into my wheel. :-/
