At the September MBAC meeting, the word was that the planned opening date will be in November of this year.

I'm looking forward to having some permanent cross trail to train on, though unfortunately it doesn't seem like that's on the schedule for the first phase that's opening in November. :(

I guess I'll just have to stick with the little courses I've carved into empty lots across the near south side for now.

The Big Marsh will officially open in early November.  There are events leading up to this - sign up for the info list at www.bigmarsh.org.   As far as cross course, yes, there is one there and it will be featured soon enough for cross racers to enjoy.  In fact, the idea of Big Marsh is to be a 'world class venue' and that has been the requirement since day one.  The only way we can develop young racers into world class racers is providing a venue that is accessible and world venue worthy to develop the skillsets and ability to compete locally, nationally, and worldwide.  This effort involves many thoughtful people from SRAM, USA Cycling, IMBA, and even local resources like The Bonebell, CCC, Slow Roll, and Chicago Park District.

Opening the park is the first step, developing the programs and maintaining the focus on continual improvement and fund raising for the remaining phases to open 22 miles of unimpeded off road cycling opportunities is the next and continual steps to keep this dream going.

For more info - get to the site above or e-mail info@thebonebell.com

Paolo
