Info on the hit-and-run driver who killed cyclist Francisco Cruz?

Background on the Francisco Cruz case: http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/francisco-cruz-hit-and-run-inv...

Someone posted the following on another site:

"Before Advanced Realty Network took down its Facebook page people had posted that the driver was [name], does anyone know whether that was true?"

I didn't notice that anyone had posted this name on the Advanced Realty Network Facebook page before it was taken down.

Does anyone have info as to why this person's name came up?

Please feel free to contact me at greenfieldjohn[at]hotmail.com or 312-560-3966.

Thanks,

I find this story perplexing. Unless the van was previously reported as stolen, then there can only be a finite number of individuals who would presumably had access to the van on that date/time.

Yes, this is a very mysterious case. It's beginning to smell a little fishy.

By now, the police should have approached the registered owner about the whereabouts and use of this vehicle during the time frame of this crime and have them explain their side of the story. Then begin the process to press charges if the vehicle was NOT reported stolen or if there were any witnesses to the crime.

Given the length of time that has passed, it seems smelly to me.

Are they in contact and cooperating with the authorities?
If not, then police should charge the registered owner of the vehicle.

The registered owner of the vehicle may very well be the business itself, or an owner who has an alibi and clearly wasn't behind the wheel.  It's not uncommon for a business vehicle to have multiple people with access to it.

I'd wager it's an issue where a select number of people had access, but no one is cooperating to the level where they can nail it down to a specific person who was driving that night.  CPD could probably do more to communicate what's going on, and at least indicate if they have it narrowed down to certain suspects, but this is unfortunately probably far from an open and shut case.
