The Deal with Walk Bike Transit...

So here is the deal: This is a once in a generation election for the city of Chicago which means we need to come out strong...

We are working to organize coffees for Aldermanic and Mayoral Candidates (i.e. meet-and-greet events) at individuals homes (and occasionally) venues throughout the city.   For the aldermanic's we are doing this on a ward-by-ward basis so that candidates can speak directly to constituents (i.e. People who can vote for them); and we are trying to limit these events to constituents to increase our impact accordingly.  Unless of course you would be willing to write a check, in which case we don't care where you are from :) To find out what ward you live in, you can go to our website http://walkbiketransit.org, and click on What ward do I live in?

We are trying to set these up in as many wards as possible (all 50 if we can make it happen). So if you are interested in helping organize/host a coffee in your ward then the next step would be a conversation with me.  We are also in the process of organizing for the mayoral candidates, which will of course be great for everyone to be involved in.

Thanks and wishing you all safe and warm riding,

John

Hilkevitch is not quite correct on that.  Miguel del Valle had transit among the issues on his web site from the start, and he's mentioned in the forums that have happened to date.

Tribune article on how none of the candidates have directly addressed transit.

Yesterday I was talking to Ron Burke of the Active Transportation Alliance, and he was telling that most of the mayoral candidates are now starting to talk about our issues to varying degrees.  Yeah!  Keep up the good work!

Rahm is finally starting to talk about transportation...he wants to cut the municipal fleet and encourage city workers to use transit, bike or walk. A start.

Is anyone at Walk Bike Transit thinking of going to the Nat'l Bike Summit? I am hoping to go with my family.

Also I'd be glad to host a letter writing night at our house to write some letters. Should we leaflet at a couple of el stations about wbt and what it's agenda is in the election?? J.

Channel 11 (WTTW) has just launched a blog to cover the mayoral campaign.  It includes links for each candidate's web site, as well as Facebook, Twitter, media coverage and various campaign disclosures and statistics.
