The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

I would complain to the non-profit organization that had their sidewalk shoveled out into the bike lane, but... given the good work they're doing that needs support and the fact that they bothered to shovel the snow at all (most hadn't yet) it doesn't seem quite like the right thing to worry about this year. So, instead I'll just put this here.

I'm sort of...more amazed that the bike lane itself appears to have been plowed? :)

You really should say something... It's no different than people that just shovel the snow into the street.

At the very least send an email to the business.

+1  Definitely send an email to the business. They need to know that this is NOT okay, especially after the bike lane has been plowed.

I know I shouldn't assume anything, but I'd guess they've been there awhile.

As usual, the big city plows pushed huge piles of snow into the Canal PPBL, completely barricading it.  Perhaps recognizing that the lane is not passable, about half of the cars were parked directly against the curb.

On Clinton north of Union Station. Pretty much the same spot, yesterday and today.

Check out this article. It's really quite good:

There is a very sad graphic about bike lane parking enforcement inequities

Thurs, 5:30 PM in the protected bike lane on Dearborn between Wacker and Lake.

Ha! Hey, Ray- I saw you taking this picture! Getting around that truck was pretty scary: straight into oncoming traffic, or over the crowded sidewalk? Yikes!
So what are the chances that you'd be there at the same moment? Time to buy a lottery ticket! Bike safely and have a great day!
About 2:10pm, 3/20/2017, on Illinois Street between Wabash and Rush, practically under the Wabash bridge...
