Possible chainlinker tragedy,

The article names a David Brown, it's chainlinker Dan Brown. No final call on status but hoping for the best.

Yes. Sounds like he inspired everyone he met. I'm inspired now by all the love that sent rippling in his wake.

One of the news reports early on quoted the Coast Guard saying that the currents and wind were favorable for getting to shore at the time he went in. At best though, that's still a very small chance.

I didn't know Dan; I coincidentally encountered a few of his posts over the weekend, and wish I had. I tend to hang on to slivers of hope, but at this point it seems more practical to offer wishes of comfort and prayer for Dan's family and friends.

I'm learning so much about him - it's really neat that he made such an impression on so many. 

I really wonder what the heck happened on that boat. How could they just lose sight of him if the boat was disabled? It was light out, and there were five people on board, and Dan can swim well.

Will we ever know?

I was out on the water from 9am until 330 pm and the sea state was up due to a persistant easterly and in shore where powerboats fly and sailboats sail it gets even more confused. We talked about some theories last night but that is what it is just talk. Talk is cheap, hope we hear somerhing soon.

A disabled boat pushed before the wind can drift surprisingly fast.  In that situation, a man overboard can be separated very quickly from the vessel, and in the choppy waves Saturday evening, it'd be easy to lose sight of someone low in the water as they rise and fall with the wave crests.

well you can always drop sail - turn on the motor and turn the rudder - but again none of us were there so who's to know what circumstances were

I keep checking in here to see if Dan has been found.  I've spent the last two days in a fog between this tragedy and the memorial in Evanston for our friend Gigi (the Evanston Librarian).  Both good, important people.  Very sad.

I sent a Facebook Message to Jason McInnes at the Old Town School. He will be leading the jam on Thursday from 830 to 10pm. They will sing a song for Dan. Jason said that Dan had been one of his students. I don't think I can get there Thursday but will be singing a song for him wherever I am.

Thanks, David. I also work here at OTSFM and have let some of his teachers/friends here know as appropriate. Everyone shocked and saddened. Making music with Dan in mind at the end of the session jam will be great tribute. It's free and open to anyone - please join if you like to play music or sing. 4545 N. Lincoln (the new building) in the lobby. 7-10pm
