I just saw this in The Guardian;

My condolences to the victim's families. And hopes for speedy recoveries to the injured.

He is.

Not much of a surprise, as it's pretty much the only thing he talks about.

"not to blame the victims" but I'm going to completely, 100% blame the victims because I am clp, a troll who shows up on a tragic thread and can't help but chime in with the same tired trolling I hit all the threads with. Oh, but if you cross me, I'll cry about how I am treated unfairly.

clp, you've worn out your welcome. This is too going too far.

They wore it out years ago when they used a different user name...

You're not sorry clp.

I don't see clp blaming the cyclists but blaming the bike lane. The bike lane is there and those folks used it and he feels that if it wasn't there they may have been able to find a safer route. I, myself, don't think that I'd want to ride around New Orleans during Mardi Gras, but that's me.

How about we all just blame the MOTORIST, who actually killed and injured people due to his incredible negligence?

The motorist is to blame. Whether or not bike lanes promote safety is a sidebar that was brought into the conversation.

The motorist was negligent and is at fault, but is a bike lane that created a false sense of security a good thing.

I'm not saying that this wouldn't have happened if the cyclists were riding as traffic, without a bike lane, I'm saying that a bike lane promotes the idea that a cyclist is insulated from harm by auto. And if the cyclists aren't "cyclists" in the truest sense of the word, but hopped on a Divy, or sum such, with no real experience of dealing with traffic, and it's Mardi Gras, well, we have the perfect storm, so to speak.

The cyclists did nothing wrong but a drunken asswhole ran them over.

Some people won't ride in the rain, some won't ride below a certain temperature, I won't ride in New Orleans during Mardi Gras.

I don't know if it's so good to walk or stand there during Mardi Gras, either.

Yeah, it seems like, for many, Mardi Gras is just a reason to get totally fcked up and the hell with everything.

Curious, where and when did anyone say that a bike lane promotes the idea of safety? I've never heard anyone who promotes bike lane infrastructure state that it magically wards off evil, and provides a cloak of invulnerability to cyclists using them. Safer < Safety.

That goofy idea is the sole creation of clp.

Thank you, Fran.
