Has anyone ever contributed to The Derailleur ? (The deadline for the November issue is November 14th)
Are there any other paper (dead trees) publications out there?

I read Urban Velo every now and then. They produce a paper version but it's also online: http://urbanvelo.org/
This is really cool Elle, thanks!

I just finished the "Boneshaker: A Bicycling Almanac". I'd recommend it for any cyclist interested in bicycle literature and psychology. Though, I think there is one or two people in charge of it, it appears to be written as more of collaborative work by a group with interests similar to many people I have met here on the Chainlink. There also looks to be an invite for daily riders who keep a journal or log of their experiences to submit them for future publications.

The look and feel of this book is just fun. It's pocket sized and "printed on 100% recycled paper (FSC + PCF certified) made entirely with renewable energy, exceeding archival standards". I have NO freakin' clue what FSC or PCF certified means but it sounds good.

You can find them here:

Extra! Extra!

Recently found back copies of the classic '05 Bike Winter issue of the Derailleur! Packed with timeless essential info on winter biking in Chicago. Features include Dressing for Cold and Wet Weather, Winter Survival Gear, Biking in Bad Weather, Maintaing Your Bike In Bad Weather, Riding at Night, Bikes on Transit, Bike Winter Crafts and more!

Get your copy FREE while still available exclusively at West Town Bikes!
I subscribe to Momentum Magazine. It's the only cycling magazine I've found that's not centered on cycling as a sport. www.momentumplanet. The issue I just received includes articles on Chicago's Sunday Parkways and Millenium Park Bike Center.
I like Bicycling Magazine. It was a bday present from my aunt and she just informed me that when she renewed they sent her a pair of socks which are now on their way to me!
Cog magazine.
I agree with Dottie, Momentum is a very satisfying zine. Unfortunately it only comes out every other month.
More of an art zine, but bicycle related nonetheless.

Dirt Rag has a new publication called Bicycling Times.

It's like Momentum and Urban Velo, focusing on urban cycling culture related topics.

And Bicycle Retailer And Industry News, aka BRAIN

I wish I still got this in print but read it on line now.
Dead Air was a messenger 'zine that was published sporadically from the mid-late 90's onward. I still have a few copies.
I'm one of the former editors of Dead Air, the Chicago messenger 'zine.
There's a banker's box full of old copies in my dad's basement in Pennsylvania.

In addition to Momentum, Cog, and Bicycling Times,
Urban Velo and Car Busters cover commuter culture.
Bicycling has gotten simultaneously worse and better in recent years:
although every issue now seems to feature diet secrets to help you lose your
gut, at the same time they've been including more stories about transportation
cycling and advocacy.

The next Derailleur assembly party is tomorrow (WEDNESDAY) night. Here is the event listing on the calendar: http://www.thechainlink.org/events/assembly-party-derailleur For the people traumatized by the amount of work involved in the May issue, the June issue is going to come together super-fast. All we need is YOU and some hands to fold. Bring a friend, food/drink if you want.
