Good evening all! Anyone know of any public indoor loop bike parking? I'm at Monroe and LaSalle, and it seems my best option is McDonald, but that's not really a good option considering I come from the West Loop (and could walk home in nearly the same time it would take to walk to McDonald). Indoor secured is critical.

Much appreciated!

Your best bet is to have your office manager lobby the building management for a bike room. Or check to see if there already is one. There are people in my office who were unaware we have one.

We have bike storage, but it's extremely limited, and requires a "subscription." There's a very long wait list, and everyone renewed this past year.

Another option could be Divvy, as it sounds like you don't have a particularly long commute.

Let me clarify...

I'd like to participate in some after work rides. Unfortunately, they typically start at 5:30ish, which doesn't give me enough time to get home, change, grab the bike, and get back down to the Loop area. I walk to and from work every day, which is totally fine with me. My issue is finding a place to park my nice road bike so that I can participate in these rides.

Thx!

I don't get why more people don't use the bike racks at CTA stations. You can find which stations have racks online http://www.transitchicago.com/bikeandride/#Parking

Harold Washington Library and Clinton both have bike racks that are indoor and sheltered.

Unless I can park in my building which is the best option and which my building has not allowed for the past dozen years, I want to be outdoors. I want to be in the open. I want a very public spot. I prefer an open  and public spot to a sheltered and possibly quiet spot that can provide better cover for a thief. It takes a pro to steal my bike. I don't want to make my bike an option for lesser thieves.

Right, in which case you can park in any of the outdoor bike rack locations. OP was asking about an indoor sheltered location.

Bike theft is a possibility no matter how public you are placing your bike, especially downtown in the loop which empties out past 7 on a weekday. The station is likely the safest spot given the presence of a customer service assistant and stream of commuters.

??? Actually I am not sure what you are saying, but I hope that the answer was useful for the original poster.

Thanks all for the help. I guess I should add the requirement of secured. The bike in question is a nice road bike versus a commuter bike, so potentially ripe for stealing. I think I might just go with McDonalds, or find group rides that start later than 5:30pm.

There is indoor bike parking available at 440 S. LaSalle. It's very secure.
