The Chainlink

The trip this weekend was nice....and I'm looking forward to riding the next one. Who's in? Where do we want to go? What weekend?

Would anyone be up for Chain O' Lakes State Park?

Its about 60 miles out, the campsites are quite a bit more private than the ones at the Indiana Dunes State park Campground.

The route to the park might need some work, but once there we could rent canoes or rowboats and hit the water.

It's also only about 5 miles from the Fox Lake Metra stop, so if you're worried about the riding, you have an easy escape option.

Who's in? What dates work best? I'd want to do a Friday to Sunday trip. Maybe July 17-19?

Okay, I called the Park about the 4th of July weekend. There are no more reservable sites for the 4th of July weekend, however 75% of the sites are first come first serve. The ranger said that some people come out on Wednesday or Thursday and set up a tent and then go to work the next day and then come out for the rest of the holiday weekend. I'm not sure how well that would work for us, but we could try. Since I'm taking a day off of work anyway, I could change plans and head out on Thursday instead.

As for the route, I did a rough map:

Here are the general turns and I mapped it on Gmaps pedometer as well: "here"

I didn't do all of the curves, so it's probably between 55-60 miles.

Starting at N channel trail at Lawrence & California
N. North Channel Trail to church
W on Church
N On Central Park Ave.
W on Wilmette Ave.
N. on Ridge
Cross to Green bay Trail
N. on Green Pay trail (some of it is crushed limestone)
W. on Clavey
NW. on Skokie Valley bike path (need to figure out connection to North Shore Path)
N. on Norht Shore bike path
N. On St. Mary’s rd.
W. on Oak Spring Road Curves and end up on N. Sand Stone
W. on Winchester
N. on Harris
W. on Belvidere (path by road)
N. On Atkinsin
W. on Trail by Washington, continue on Washington
N. On Cedar Lane Rde
W. on Golf View Rode
N. on Kildeer
W. on Lake Shore Drive
To W. on Chain O Lakes Bike Path (follows Rollins Rd.
NW on Highway 12 (may have to do the sidewalk for a mile)
N. on State Park Rd to back entrance of park. It is gated, but a bike can go around it.
I did a 2 day tour a couple of years ago and found this map to be really helpful. It'll take us really close to Chain O Lakes using mostly off road bicycle routes and smaller low speed country roads.

Well, we already have a touring group. Does there need to be another group? Feel free to join that group for more discussions.

Hey lady...long time no see. I don't think I can do July but keep me posted on these trips!
Michigan Peace Fest July 10-12 $40 at Bim's. Bands, camping and smoke out. Your gonna need a ride unless your down for a 180 miles on the bike. You can put it on the car, can help arrange transportation for a bare minimum. Do something different this year. http://www.michiganpeacefest.com/

I am down. I would love to join the group. I need to get out more. I can go any date, but the sooner one is announced the better, because I need to let work no in advance.
A group of us are definitely going out on the Fourth of July weekend for a trip. We're leaving Thursday Morning.

Hey there,
I did the bike ride last year for the End of Summer Love In at WIllow Ranch. I'm thinking of doing another bike ride for Peace Fest. Anyone going already?
