I was in a car - bicycle accident on January 1, 2015.  The impact of the collision was quit a shock to my system and left me very confused at the scene of the accident.  Consequently, I made every mistake in the book – I did not ask for the police to come, I didn’t see the driver’s driver’s license or his insurance card.  He did give me his telephone number and I gave him mine.

At the scene, I thought I had sustained just superficial injuries and was able to get home on my own.  However, four days later, new symptoms appeared and I contacted my internist.  I now have medical expenses totaling $2,600 expenses.

I called the driver, however, the number he gave me turned out to be bad.  I did write down his license plate number.  It is now three weeks since the accident.  I realize I have been slow to follow-up legally.  But at this point, is it too late to try and do a DMV search on his plates?  I just want to get reimbursed for my medical bills and bicycle repair bills.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Absolutely. And if you have the license plate number and other relevant details (crash location, time, etc.), you can still file a crash report. Better to do it ASAP.
