I saw a cyclist in a high vis jacket detained by a non-uniformed CPD officer on the corner of Milwaukee and Elston at approximatly 5:45 tonight. I couldn't tell it was a cop at first so I asked if everything was alright and the cop told me to keep it moving. I overheard the officer joking with the cyclist and saying that he could call a "street lawyer" if he wanted...

This happened on a pretty busy intersection, anyone see anything go down?

I appreciate the offer, but this guy has enough of my information and has proved he's slightly irrational, so I'd rather not have anyone pursue it further than my initial complaint.

I'm sure it won't be long before one of us sees a security car in the bike lane again.

Please reconsider. The same thing will happen to someone else if you just ignore it but that person may not be as lucky. Also, don't overestimate this bully, when you stand up to him, he will retreat like the coward that he is.

This is a public Internet forum, bud. If you still haven't gotten a clue from the courtroom updates thread maybe you should figure it out now.

Take your own advice Davis.  Tom's right

That's true. And to my eye, Davis Moore offered sound advice on a public internet forum.

Let's not get into huge debate about this. It's Friday :)

Maybe I'm showing my age, but I was brought up knowing that if I was going to show up on the Internet on a Friday afternoon, I'd better be wearing my asbestos undies.

All kidding aside. A qualified attorney is the best bet. I once had a minor drug case dropped because the police hassled me on the stop. It's not television & Law and Order. They don't have to read you "your rights". Yet at the same time, you don't have to say $hit but your name and address. The CPD is notorious for being bullies.

You're joking, right?

But really, was anyone hurt by this incident?  Drop it.   I've lived in Chicago long enough to appreciate the "tough" stance our cops maintain.  I spent 45 minutes 'cuffed and on my butt, freezing in the Loop wearing nothing but a tee-shirt & running tights during the marathon, just because I failed to recognize and stop when a bike cop told me to do so.  I'm still grateful.  The next guy that bike cop 'cuffs might have just broken into my apartment!  This is a big, dangerous city folks...and for all their insensitivities and mistakes, it is those aggressive cops that keep us safe!

Yeah, why have the right to not be harassed when we can just be safer in a police state.
