I wish I thought of this earlier . . .

There are some simple settings you can change to protect, to some extent, your privacy (and sanity) here on the Chainlink. These settings should, hopefully, limit the access to your forum, pictures and events and allow you to monitor and approve (or disapprove) comments.

Now, if I understand the Terms of Service of The Chainlink Community, LLC, I, as a member of the said Community, license any material I post on thechainlink.org to the Community:

3. LICENSE TO THE CHAINLINK COMMUNITY, LLC

Upon your submission of any material to the Site, you grant Us [The Chainlink] and We thereby accept, a worldwide, perpetual, non-terminable, irrevocable, transferable, license to access, use, distribute, perform, reproduce, display, and sub-license, and to permit others to access, use, distribute, perform, reproduce and display, the Content [emphasis mine—SL], all without any compensation to you whatsoever. [...]

OK . . . But who those "others" might be? Does it mean that any content I license to the Chainlink could be reproduced on some other site? And if not, what could be done to either prevent something like that to happen or to demand the removal of the content that already had been reproduced?

Section 15 seems to limit how others may use the site content (if not actually defining who others is):

15. OUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

This website contains material which is owned by or licensed to Us. The website and all owner-created content andthe right, title and interest in and to the website is the sole property of Us or its licensors, and is protected by U.S.copyright and international treaties. Except for the limited licenses expressly granted to you in the TOU, We reserve for Us and its licensors all other right, title and interest. Without limitation on the foregoing, you may not reproduce, modify, display, sell, or distribute the Content, or use it in any other way for public or commercial purpose.

If you put it on the internet it's public.  I don't care what 'the rules' say that is just common sense; if you don't want a wacko like Beezedog reposting stuff you just have to not put it out there.

the sharing of personal info though is another issue...

Thanks, Serge! Dunno the answers to the questions you pose at the end, but I appreciate the reminder to be a little less share-y. Just a little.

+1

Doug put it accurately and succinctly.  Stuff on our personal pages goes as far and wide as we will allow it go.  To the extent that we throw things at the forum we throw it outdoors and very publicly.

It would be very different if somebody was re posting and doing so in a way to infer a different meaning from what I had originally posted or edited it in a way that changed the meaning. In such a case, I think the re poster is a lower form of  human life. If somebody re posts what I say, and does so accurately, I can't do much about it even if they are lifting my content to brighten their blog. In such a case I say, "you're welcome pal." As to what has  happened with the content lifter being discussed here, I have not read much and cannot comment.

Thanks Serge! I didn't realize I had my settings defaulted to the public view - this is a good thing to know!

Before Section 1, the TOS states:

The terms "You," "Visitor" and “User” as used herein refer to all individuals and/or the entities they represent(jointly and severally) accessing this Website for any reason.

It seems you are bound by these terms by merely accessing the site.

In this content, "you" means you as a member of the Chainlink, not some other parties. No?

Nothing on the internet is "private" and some jerk off that takes things and posts them out of context to further his/her agenda is weak.

So . . . unless the Chainlink (sub)licenses to someone else any content, it is illegal to use it. Do I understand it right? Is there any distinction between, say, private blog that does not generate "cash flow" (income? profit?) and a web site that does?

Yes, it may be a illegal and a civil violation but when the rubber hits the road, the real question is whether you or the chainlink's owners are willing to take the infringer to court in order to get your rights enforced.  For most copying on the internet, the answer is probably no, so it doesn't matter.
