Anywhere You Can Find Lakefront Path Activities That Are Going On??

I've looked many places, but does anyone know where you can find out what kind of activities are taking place on the lakefront path at any given time?

I just would love to find a listing that would say, for example, "5K run on the lakefront path from 31st street to McCormick Place on XX day at XXX time" -- several weeks ago

there were THREE separate walks or runs going on in the same area on the south LFP and if I had known they were going on I would have avoided it.

Anyone got any ideas?

The Active Transportation Alliance (www.activetrans.org) used to maintain a page that listed events on the LFP.  Their site is currently down right now, however, so I can't see whether they still maintain that page.

Looks like Chicago Park Department publishes a parks calendar.  It doesn't appear to allow you to select events based on something like the LFT, which runs through multiple parks, neighborhoods and zip codes.  I didn't look closely though. Perhaps there's some magic there I didn't notice.

The Chicago Area Runners Association posts a list of races which, by location, you can figure out which take up part of the LFP.

ActiveTrans used to post information on their blog every Friday, but I haven't see anything since last year.

Hey folks!

Active Trans still publishes a list of Lakefront Trail events every Friday afternoon via our Lakefront Trail Conditions reporting system.

You can view these updates, as well as crowd-sourced alerts about weather conditions or debris, on our website here http://activetrans.org/lakefronttrailconditions or if you are on twitter you can just follow our lakefront trail twitter account at @activetransLFT.  (apologies - we are having some technical difficulties with our site today so may need to check back later.)

You can also share updates about trail conditions with us by using the #ChiLFT hashtag on twitter or just emailing lakefront@activetrans.org.

(We compile this information by mining the Chicago Parks District Event Permit database and doing some online detective work, but in case you are interested you can check it out here: https://data.cityofchicago.org/Events/Chicago-Park-District-Event-P...)

We've been considering moving to a monthly listing with weekly reminders - so this is good input!

Hope this is helpful info and please pass along any other suggestions you may have for ways we can make this more useful.

Thanks everyone!

PS - apparently this weekend there's some sorta concert downtown...so the trail may be a bit crowded :)

Also, we're having issues with our website today. The datacenter where our websserver is hosted is having some major problems affecting hundreds of thousands websites.

So, we're up and down a lot today, unfortunately.

Thanks,

Ethan Spotts, Active Trans

Does it include things happening at Northerly Island? I ran into a crowd of unruly Phish fans on my way home from work a few weeks ago!

Weekends--if you can get out there before 7:00 a.m., it is tolerable.  Otherwise, take to the streets.  It is less frustrating and it is safer!

They might be mellow but they are also oblivious and stupid as shit.
