The Chainlink

How tragic.  Yet another biker dies, in this case on a route I take most days.

I want to express extend to Robert's friends and family.  Anybody here know him?

I wonder exactly where it happened and how the two collided. The road is pretty wide there I believe...

From the Trib:

A 26-year-old man died Wednesday night after he was hit by a car traveling in the same direction, police said.

Robert Cann, of the 3200 block of North Southport Avenue, was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m.

He had been traveling south on Clybourn Avenue north of Division Street and was hit by a southbound car about 6:45 p.m., police said.

This is sad. There was heavy rain early on during rush hour, traffic all over slowed down and caused problems the rest of the night.

very sad. I express my sympathies too.

I was cycling home last evening (went up the lakefront a bit then through lakeview back to my 'hood)

at that exact time and maybe it was just me; but the (car) drivers seemed really worked up and

anxious (more than usual ?) around that time. maybe it was the upcoming blackhawks game ?

so sad and sorry to read about another fatality...

It's very sad. My prayers go out to his friends and family as well.

Hey everyone. The man who Killed Bobby Cann has an extremely good and well paid layer. The facts coming out are that his BAC was .127 (roughly 6 drinks in an hour) and that he was driving 50 in a 30 when he hit Bobby. There were three other people in the car with him and no one stopped him from driving. I am also hearing that they were disrespectful and unremorseful on the seen. These are not good people and I would really like to see justice served.

I am posting this because keeping media attention on this is prob the best way to make sure that these people do not get off easy.

I am asking for people to come out and talk about this. To show up at the court hearings and to over all not let this get swept under the rug.

I am asking for people in the community that can help with the to please get a hold of me.

Thanks!

I agree Simone that we keep the pressure on. This is an outrage that this guys is driving above the limit at these speeds.  Let me encourage Bobby's parents to also file a civil suit against this guy.

By the way I did look at the location he got hit on Friday (it's on my daily commute route).  Clybourn effectively narrows just on that block because of all the cars parked on the East side of the street and a left turn lane (going North, Larabee I believe).

Regardless there was plenty of good visibility for Bobby to be seen if this ***hole hadn't been going over the limit.

I normally am against "extra" action, but this seems to me to be one of those exceptions to the rule.   Is this one of those cases where, for example, it might make sense to have an extended protest ride around this guy's block in Park Ridge.   Or perhaps a ride around the Park where the baseball team that he is involved with plays.   Something to send a clear message.

The next HEARING in the continuing saga of the legal process for Ryne Sanhamel, while allegedly driving drunk with an alleged Blood-Alcohol level of .127 allegedly drove into and allegedly killed cyclist Bobby Cann. This is a criminal proceeding, not a civil proceeding.  The date is June 2nd, 2015 at 10am, Judge William Hooks presiding.
