I rode in to work today, and now I'm thinking I might have to bus it half the way home.  I live about 7 miles from my office which really isn't bad, but man it is hot out there.  I was just wondering if I'm the only one considering wussing out.

I agree. You can always put more clothes on to be comfortable in the cold.

I will take days like today over days like the day I posted this every time.

I was definitely interested seeing this on January 22, and was not surprised to see that it was due to someone jokingly going in and "BUMP"ing it.  Well played!

That was no joke, that was Kevin.

I don't care about LeBron James or anyone else, I'm riding my bike.

This heat is really getting to me.

Time to resurrect this question. Tomorrow is supposed to be worse.

Not keeping me off my bike, but I felt like I was pedaling through a bathtub this morning, and it seemed to me that even the fast guys were not riding as fast.

I rode yesterday and my clothes had barely dried out in time to head home at 5:30.  A good rule of thumb for me is if it's over 75 at seven in the morning it'll be too hot.

I'm just over 7 miles each way for my commute now, and the heat is getting to me too.

Yesterday, I tried the divvy + train.  Today, I just rode in earlier.  It's still (relatively) cool at 6:00am

I really feel for the folks who are racing Prairie State races in this heat!

I rode. I wet about 75.5% of my hair before I leave my home/work/etc. If I wet the whole thing it will never dry unless I'm outside for about 3 hours.

Seriously, though, I'm showering a lot, biking slowly (as usual) and keeping my head hair wet. I just go to the bathroom sink at work and splash some cold water on my hair/face. It works.

Wussing out can be fun though. I do it when I can. Take advantage to wear something that you normally couldn't wear on your  bike. Use the time to rest. Whatever.

Glad I saw this thread of discussions, because I have allowed the heat to keep me off my bike for a few days.  I'm a recreational bike rider on my way to becoming semi-serious but still very much in the learning stages and wasn't sure about how unsafe it is to ride in 83+degree weather.  But from skimming through the posts it seems doable as long as I slow it down & stay hydrated.  So as I sit here typing this I've decided to give it go.  I'm going to fill the saddle bags hanging on my bikes carrier w/ bottles of water & head out.  One can only ride indoors to nowhere on a Spinning bike for so long; Spinning is great & it burns a lot of calories but I miss the solace of the open road, the fresh air & mini-adventures (biking is like a box of chocolates, when out riding, you never know what you're going to get to see LOL).  Enjoy the day Chainlinkers.  :)

It's nice out there.
