I saw this Japanese Bike Parking system on the internet-bob list and thought it looked very cool.  I think it would be great here in Chicago, assuming it didn't interfere too much with existing subterranean infrastructure.  In theory, you could use the same account system as the yet-to-be-realized bike sharing system.  Heck, the bike sharing system could use the same parking structure...

that thing looks awesome!

oh my....millions of dollars for a bike rack.....

That would be perfect for bike sharing systems since all the bicycles are constructed with standard geometry.

That system is really cool. I'd like to see Chicago pass a law, similar to what they already have in NYC, that requires all parking garages to maintain a certain percentage of spaces available for bike parking. I like the bike facility at Millennium Park but its a bit out of the way for many of us working downtown. In addition, I'd like to see changing and shower facilities but that's a bit of a stretch.

We're gaining momentum now (both figuratively and literally) with the Dearborn bike lanes, which is a good sign. Since this site has been revamped, maybe we can use it to focus our collective voices toward this goal. It astounds me how much we spend on vehicle based infrastructural. Surely, we can devote more of that money toward "green movement" projects.
