Chainlinkers, we're proud to partner again with Bike Winter and The Chainlink (yaaay, Julie!) for the 2013 Chicago Bike Swap.

The Chainlink will have a booth, of course, and we'll be planning a sweet Chainlink after-party with Julie soon (details coming early '13). Think bike, beer, music, fun.

Right now, we're hoping bike shops, businesses, bike clubs, bike teams and Chainlinkers like you who may have lots of bikes, parts, gear and clothing will register for a table or booth.

Got a couple milk crates of parts and some wheels you want to unload? Half-tables start at just $25!

Plus, the Racketeers are confirmed, so you don't want to miss out...we hope you can join us!

Thanks,

Ethan Spotts, Active Trans

PS: here's a blog we posted with more details...

Chicago Bike Swap 2013 debuts at huge new space

On Saturday, March 9, 2013, the Chicago Bike Swap brings together bike shops, businesses, bike clubs, bike teams and lots of bike people to exhibit and sell bikes, bike parts, gear, clothing, bike event registrations and celebrate biking in three huge gyms at the UIC Physical Education Building, 901 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago.

Booth and table registration is now open for bike shops, businesses, teams, clubs and individuals. Want to get your stuff in front of thousands of bike people? Got a closet-full of old bikes, parts and gear? Get your table or booth now while space is available.

Admission is $10 (cash only) or $5 for members of the Active Transportation Alliance and students, staff and faculty of University of Illinois at Chicago. Kids 12 and under free. Active Trans is proud to host this event that also benefits Chicago Bike Winter and The Chainlink.

The public is welcome to bring up to three bikes per person to sell in our giant Bike Corral. The service is admission plus $5 per bike. You set the price and we call you when a buyer is interested.

In addition to affordable bike merchandise, you can expect presentations on topics like biking safely with children, updates on Chicago’s new biking infrastructure and performances by the amazing Racketeers, a women’s BMX bike dance troupe.

For only $30, you’ll get admission to the swap and a one-year Active Transportation Alliance membership, which includes the Chicagoland Bike Map (a $10 value).

Please save the date for our annual bike extravaganza, the 2013 Chicago Bike Swap on Saturday, March 9, 2013!

Good to see this, and I like the March 9 date much more than January.

You can hit the Chicago Winter Bike Swap at Harper College in Palatine on Saturday, January 19. It's Chicagoland's other great bike swap http://chicagowinterbikeswap.com/.

We've already got five booths and tables sold, thanks everyone!

Best,

Ethan Spotts, Active Trans Swapper

Looking forward to it.

woo-hoo.  I can make this years!   I love swapping!!!

Yay! The old venue was certainly part of the charm, but it seems like the event has outgrown it. It was getting pretty packed. And we'll have beer again? Awesome! Also, UIC is closer to my dwelling.  At the risk of repeating myself: Yay!

We may not be able to have beer, Tony, we're still looking into it. Good food and coffee for sure. Obviously, it would be great but we stopped at Pulaski because the permitting, insurance, etc. was getting too expensive.

Just want to keep beerxpectations in check.

Ethan, Active Trans

beerexpectations!  ha!   You can have all the beer you want at Cal's Liquors tonight at Chainlink Bar Night - we will be there at 5:30 tonight, 400 S. Wells!

Last one of the year and Cal's is closing at the end of the month so it may be your last time to enjoy this Chicago landmark!

I'm planning on hitting Cal's tonight, probably right at 5 but I hope I see some Chainlinkers there.

I'm curious about their N/A beer selection (I bet and hope it's Sharps). Cheers, Cals!

I am just guessing--a temporary bike corral?  It is Active Trans, after all.

I'm going to put this on my calendar so I can get the time off (my schedule gets done a month in advance). Anyway, I know that venue because it's where the Chicago Herpetological Society holds its yearly ReptileFest event. What I don't know, is what you're going to do for bike parking. I don't think there's a whole lot to be had around there, what with probably a lot, if not most people attending the swap probably riding bikes. It's gonna suck to show up and have nowhere to lock up. Will there be some sort of provision for secure bike parking at the event?

We are working on plans right now. We're hoping to work with our friends at Working Bikes to utilize some of their racks to pump up our options. We will certainly do our best, bike parking is important.

We'll need lots of volunteers (parking, load-in, check-in, support, etc.) and we'll have cool vol t-shirts plus access to the swap. We'll be in touch soon, folks.

We're glad that there's excitement about this event, we've worked hard with Bike Winter (led by the esteemed Mr. 'H Kaplan) and the wonderful Julie H. and Chainlink community for the past couple of years to make it happen.

Rock the swap!

Ethan, Active Trans
