ROSCOE VILLAGE — A new segment of the North Branch Trail will soon soar over the Chicago River — the latest piece of a riverfront path that could someday rival the path on Lake Michigan.

Also imagine this connecting to the nearby North Shore Channel trail along the Chicago River at Lawrence and to any PBLs on Clyborn. That connects Bike commuters to/from Niles, Lincolnwood, Edgebrook, Albany Park, Ravenswood, Evanston, West Rogers, and River North. That would make an excellent Northside off-road/protected/buffered bike network.
This does look great. But if it gets done before the southwest side gets even a basic bike corridor from say, Midway (at least) to the loop I will totally plotz.
Hey Cameron, can you post a basic map of the route you're describing?
Does this project address the aborted crossing that was slated to cross and connect the path just north of Lincoln across the sewer years ago but got cancelled?
Neat!
Just a quick update that I checked in with Alderman Pawar's office, the bridge is scheduled to be constructed during 2015, but they're going to confirm.
My annual plug for the Chicago River Clean Up Day, on May 9 this year:
The River itself is always in need of some love. I attach a picture of a few shopping carts I hauled out last year (they don't seem that heavy until you carry them up a steep riverbank full of weedy trees) to illustrate - they are also recruiting for people willing to go out in boats to actually clear out the water. Links for both:

Clark Park is a logical fit for cyclists, as there is still decades of demolition debris that is buried deep under the area now formally designated for us (http://www.thegardenjumps.com/), it is a neat piece of history as much of that is from the old Riverview amusement park.
You can see all the clean up sites here if you're looking for one closer to home:
