Do you think people break bottles on the LFP on purpose? I'm thinking specifically of the stretch between Oak and Grand. There were a couple spots this morning, and I got a couple flats on that stretch about a month or two ago.
Does some of it get washed up with the waves?
Its confusing sometimes too because, mixed in with the actual glass, are some shiny mineral bits embedded in the pavement that look like glass in the morning light.
Do I call 311 to get that swept, or the park district?

I think people break bottles on that stretch on purpose out of stupidity and acting like drunk idiots more so than "out to get bikers" or anything like that. It was pretty warm out this weekend so I bet a lot of people were out partying over there.
I believe 311 is the right number to call but I'm not 100% certain.
I notice this often when riding the LFP in that area specifically and I think Rich has it right, probably more drunk than malicious... at least I hope that is the case.
I couldn't find a category that this fit under on the 311 web site, so I submitted a request at the park district website
I remember Anne Alt started a petition about broken glass a while ago.
It's horrible. Every morning I have to dodge the broken glass. I agree it's probably mostly from cars on LSD. South of Grand, all the way to the end of the path, there's hardly ever broken glass.
Who actually takes care of the path, is it CDOT or CPD? Why can't they just sweep the damn thing every week? Or maybe even more frequently where it gets bad.
i always notice glass pieces on lawrence ave, right by these auto body joints. the glass is usually from cars that have been towed there after an accident, and the glass is just shrapnel from the crash they were involved. sucks either way!
I think that's probably a park district issue. I'll see if I can get an answer on that.

They sound like total scumbags. I encountered some drunken idiots this past weekend standing in the middle of the street who yelled "nice helmet" at me.

I always thought it was just drunken idiots, but now I'm not so sure if it's "innocent" drunken idiots. The other night I saw a group of drunken idiots lounging just north of Grand. One of them saw me, nudged the others, and pointed at me. As I went by, glass crunched and they started hooting like it was the funniest thing in their drunken idiot world. I continued on my way unfazed (blessed be my Vittoria Randonneurs), and they were audibly disappointed about it.
I emailed a contact earlier today and just got an update that a park district crew is taking care of it now. Should be clear for this evening's commute.
Well, there goes the LSD drive-by theory. What time was this? Did you call the police?
