The Chainlink

After I locked up my bike this morning, a car pulled in behind me.  Inconvenient for bikers, but surely they were just there do drop something off, and didn't want to pay $20 of downtown parking.  I won't begrudge them that.

I go out to do some errands during a late lunch, and low and behold, the car is still there!

Whaaat?  My bike was pretty near the middle, so getting it out (and later back in) was a challenge.

I called up the building management, to see if they could get a warning, or maybe a ticket, or something. The woman asks for the cars details (thank goodness I took pictures to share here), and then says, "ok, we can just have that towed."

Well ok then.  I feel a bit bad, because having your car towed sucks... but I don't feel that bad.

There is usual a fine line to walk. Just because a person parks wrong, doesn't mean you have to rat him out. It might just come back to you. Karma is funny that way.

But this is exceptionally d!ckish. Hope he got towed

Maybe it already has, retroactively.  That's the same spot my bike got stolen from a couple of weeks ago.

If the weather was bad, or it was a less-nice car, or if there wasn't any parking structures around I would feel guilty.  But the weather is lovely, they can afford to get their car back, and there's two public pay-for-parking structures within the block.

Definitely a dick move by the car, but I would've tried to climb into the gap between the car and rack and tried my best to get the bike out before I ratted him out. I see it as a puzzle to solve, and try my best not to disturb the other bikes or scratch the car.

If it was impossible to maneuver the bike out, then I would've done what you did.

Nice job, Christine.  Justice was served.

No way in hell you should feel bad. I would have hopped up on to the hood making sure to leave some nice dents to get my bike out, THEN had it towed...

Tow 'em all, let God sort 'em out.

They're actually touching the bikes?  Clearly intentional, likely a hater. They drew first blood, so all's fair.

No guilt in having that d*ckhead's car towed.

Nobody with a shred of common sense would ever think that was an OK move to park there.   Then again this person is driving a Mercury Sable -so common sense went out the window a LONG time ago...

A Mercury is a nice car? The world must be an exceptionally rewarding place when you have such low standards.

I would have also felt bad. Its hard for me to call a tow when someone is in my parking spot {which I rent out).

Yo ho tow 'em away!  Yes, that's a link.  Click it for an appropriate musical response.
