I figured that I would start a thread to see if we could get some sort of chainlink group to ride together. My plan is to ride at a fairly casual pace and enjoy myself, so I'm looking for others to do the same. And, as many people know, the ride is much more enjoyable and goes by faster when you're in good company. I know I already asked James, but who else would be down for this? And, what time would you all plan on meeting?

So the good news is that as of right now wind is forecast to be out of the northwest at 11 mph.  Tailwind on the way back :-).  Then again, this is Chicago.  It will probably change.

I plan to ride with Dave, and get the other 38 miles riding back and forth between Oak Park and Evanston.

So ... getting back to the original point of this thread if I may. Anybody want to join me for the metric at a <15 mph pace, setting out at 6:30? If so, where shall we meet?

Not sure what time we will arrive (trying for 6:30, but you know how it is when you turn off the alarm and...), but Trish and I are planning to do the classic. We won't be pushing too hard, since we have to save a bit for the Apple Cider Century the following Sunday. Hope to see some of you out there. Is there a secret handshake or wave or just a Bike Winter ear gaiter?

So, Mr. Kelt, when will we be headed out, and will you come get me and my lovely lady (she will be at the start and finish to cheer us on) or should we meet you at the park? There's a possibility that I may be field-testing a 2013 Fuji SST, so that someone at the shop has ridden one and can describe the ride. That would be so rad. I may also be on the Basso. Never know. Otherwise, I'll be on my trusty fixed gear.
Don't forget the Spingery Rev-X (A.K.A. The Amazing Explode-y Wheel. Gather 'round and watch as it pitches it's rider headlong into the pavement after a mere bump). Also, Sheldon Brown tribute beard? It's not orange, man. Also, KiltedCelt has a hippy-tail. Don't forget that part.

My black-framed vintage Raleigh, with the huge handlebar bag, isn't hard to spot.

Well, myself and Bryan are planning on doing the Classic as well. I know James Blackheron is planning on that too as is 50missioncap. 50mission and I are planning on meeting up there early - 6:00 AM - we both ride touring bikes, his is apparently a gray Surly LHT and mine is a dark green tourer with yellow panniers. Bryan's bike has a wood look-a-like paint job and he has a crazy-ass "Sheldon Brown tribute beard", while I sport a classy white beard myself. I'm sure we'll all be able to find each other easy enough.

Trish will be on her white Specialized Dolce, but I have yet to decide whether I will ride my brown Specialized TriCross Sport, my old green Raleigh Super Course Mark II, the brown KHS Special, or what. my beard was once black, but those days are gone...

I plan to ride the 50 at a pace around 14. I will get there at 630 on a blue/green Jamis with bar end shifters.

OK, Let's us metric riders meet on these steps at 6:20 a.m. (plug into Google maps):

42.046154,-87.673354

I'll be the guy in the white Argonne National Lab jersey, Trek Madone, hard to miss. Looking forward to meeting and riding with some of my Chainlink friends!

In order to get the right location for the Lat/long, put an N after the 42, etc and a W after the 087, etc.  And it needs to be 087 rather than -87.

Riding 50 but you guys will be way too fast for me.  Maybe see you at the start just to meet some people.

Can someone just post a google maps link?    (no, don't do an Apple maps link or we'll all end up in some wormhole or something.)

I'm planning on being there at 6 am sharp to start as early as possible to squeeze in a century.  As kilted said, I'm rolling a gray long haul trucker.  Probably gonna rock my rear arkel bags to put a few things in - wind be damned.
