Lance? I worry you may, at some point, have been taking cycling a bit too seriously? Since I am all about solutions: I will loan you the Huffy for the next First Friday Ride! We will have a BALL!... Ooops... I mean... we'll have fun!

All he wants to do is have some fun...

I don't know what to do with pro cycling.  I watch Christian Vandervelde win yesterday and love the sport. I watch beautiful vistas in races around the world.  I am amazed by spinters with an incredible top end like Cavendish or warriors like Voight or Voeckler and I am sucked in.  I read the stories about LA and cancer and I wore a yellow band for a while.  Yet, it seems that every new champion is another Barry Bonds.  Every time I am reassured that the sport is now clean I find it never was.  The allegations about Armstrong are old but come on top of all this.  I find it hard to care but I continue to watch.

As regards the Alpha Male of American Cycling, I was a fan. At that time most of us were. I am currently neutral but will be surprised by nothing.  I am not thrilled with his choice to plead nolo contendre and just give up.  At this point I think the fans are better off with whatever bloodbath a hearing would have brought.  Lets find out what people have to say including those who really didn't want to speak and those who would be hurt by a public spectacle.  I think a publbic purge would be good in the long run.  Lets see how "I have never failed a test" matches up against whatever USADA has up its sleeve.  At the same time I saw Christian win yesterday I also saw exciting young cyclists like VanGarden and Phinney.  This will be better for them.  I hope UCI insists on some type of hearing before making its mind up regarding sanctions. Perhaps the landscape in which they cycle will be a different one.

All your doping scandal questions answered

Some interesting user comments, too.

The WADA and the various local agencies like USADA need to be disbanded and de-funded.

Either they need to be converted into  fully-public governmental entities that must operate under government-oversight with checks and balances against their authority with true judicial and congressional oversight -or they need to be converted into fully private entities and not affiliated with quasi-governmental agencies which allow pedobear tinpot tyrants like Travit Tygart to operate decades-long witch-hunts and create massive personal fiefdoms to expand their quasi-governmental power-base into -and to do all this while making a celebrity name for themselves.    It's disgusting.  Tygart needs to be brought down.

IMHO Tygart is just as bad as Elliot Spitzer and it's only a matter of time before someone from Anonymous or other organization like that finds kiddie porn on his computer (like from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movies)  or digs some other dirt out of his closet.  I can't think of someone more deserving of this special treatment than himself.  What a cad.

I have  10 unnamed sources whom I have blackmailed/arm-twisted/paid-off  (and are also self-admitted pedos themselves) who are prepared to testify in a extra-judicial court without any chance of legal recourse to fully cross-examine or appeal that Tygart has been seen perusing child-porn.

That's good enough for me.  I'll just let that rattle around for a few years in the court of public opinion until I can hook something more solid...

Do you know that Tygart is into child porn, or are you making unfounded accusations to start a witch hunt against someone that you don't like? USADA's policies are questionable at best and the organization needs to be massively reformed or disbanded. However calling Tygant a pedophile with no evidence to support the claim is sinking below his level.

hahaha

Epilogue: Did anybody have Daniele Nardello in the 1999 TDF?

So Wait, Who Actually Won All Those Tour De France Titles?

Maybe they should pick the Lanterne Rouge for those years.  Or was he, too doping?

1991.

Yeah ... but he had his hands full with other problems.

This guy had a good race and doesn't seem like the type to dope. Maybe he won.
