new sculptures, Gene?  And it was a beautiful morning--I could tell by all of the extra people out between 7:15 and 8:00!

Wondering if I am going to be able to get through at North Avenue this afternoon or if I should just skip it and head north on the street?

This sculpture was not there last night when I went by around 4:45. It is just south of the easternmost underpass at North Ave on the west side of Lake Shore Drive. A delightful surprise.

On Air & Water Show weekend I avoid Navy Pier to Fullerton on the lakefront trail as if it were full of snakes, rats and hard-shelled beetles. I am unsure if Friday afternoon is as brimming with vermin.

Two years ago I was in a parade on the south side for a politician on Saturday of Air & Water Show weekend. The 1-1/2 hour lakefront ride back took 3 hours. I learned my lesson.

Isn't it always full of snakes, rats and hard-shelled beetles?

This was an "I don't wanna go to work" morning commute.  A perfect morning to keep on riding and riding.

Gene's photos usually give a good flavor of the delight of riding on that particular day. Today's downed tree does not show how lovely it was this morning.  More than one sense was needed to take that in. We have shared the difficulties of excessively cool or hot days.  Today the air was crisp before dawn but was not cold. I wore a tee shirt with a pair of cycling sleeves and a pair of sandals.  I could ride fast without working up much of a sweat and did not get cold when I stopped.  As the sun rose the air warmed but there was still no need to take off the sleeves until I reached my destination in the loop.  Days like this are a treasure.  You could feel this in the air last night. I walked to the local drug store and stopped for a minute to look up, breath in the air, feel the faint whisper of impending autumn in a still summery tableau.  I can't wait for this  evening's ride home.

Yes, another beautiful morning ride.  That tree makes it look as if we had storms, which of course we did not.  Just a poor old tree with a limb that gave up?

Anyone else notice all of the sand between North Avenue and Fullerton on the LFP these last three days?  Downright dangerous in a couple of spots.  Did the Park District give everyone a few days off to recover from the Air and Water Show?

I was wondering where you were, Gene!  Great photos from my neck of the woods--Belmont Harbor.  Love the gulls.
