... and some make you stop and take notice. In our city we are spoiled with many bridge crossings and some amazing examples of engineering. I am a fan of these engineering marvels, despite the love hate relationship we on 2 tires have with them, ever since I was a kid cruising down the Chicago River every spring/fall with the boat to and from winter storage. Idea built on David's photo of the Cherry Ave bridge in Halsted Interrupted .
It is indeed photogenic...
Post pic's of your favourite water/train/road crossing that you have taken when out on your bike. city, country, burbs does not matter just that you shot it and where is it.

This bridge over Bureau Creek was damaged by flooding (in 1993?). The bank is washed away, leaving about a 10' gap at the south end. There's a really nice Category 5 climb on the other side, so I crawled across with the bike on the edge of a 2 x 12 to get across the creek. I wish I had a picture of the old IL Rt 26 bridge over the Illinois River at Hennepin. After it was closed to motor vehicles I used to cross on the bike. You could look through the deck in places and see the river far below. Now I cross on the I-180 bridge, which is probably scarier.
Lift bridge on the Hennepin Canal near Wyanet, with lock in foreground. These bridges were hand cranked to raise the deck so barges could pass. Most roads over the canal had girder bridges high above the water. There are at least two of these lift bridges. Not sure why they were used in a couple of locations instead of fixed ones. You can see the stacks of counterweights in the supporting columns (just above the handlebar in the last pic). Notice the chain running over the pulley at the top of each column. The chains are attached to the stacks of weights, which counterbalance the weight of the deck so it can be cranked up by hand.
A woman I know from some online gaming has this blog where she rides around taking pictures of bridges http://lifeonabridged.blogspot.com/
I've ridden the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge over the mouth of the Milwaukee River twice, but it can only be ridden legally only one day each year, the first Sunday in June. I've been fighting for a trail on this bridge so that those of us in Milwaukee's East Side can have more direct acces toBay View and points south, including Northern Illinois.
These pics were of a pedestrian bridge over the Wisla River in Krakow. One side for cyclists and the other side for pedestrians
Cool blog!
