Ugh.  At least the rack is biodegradeable.  A wooden bike rack is probably ok if you're sitting on the beach 10 feet away and don't ever turn your back on the bike or go into the water.  Don't think I'd like to tangle with a bike thief wielding a chainsaw.

Are you sure this is a bike rack?  I'm not really sure what else it would be though.

This one looks better.

'Tis a fine barn but sure 'tis no bike rack, English

Maybe it's a towel rack?

Only other thing I could think was a lockup for beach chairs and umbrellas the park distict would rent.

Forget chainsaw, try hacksaw or an axe!  I wouldn't lock to that rack if you paid me!

Speaking of why you shouldn't lock to a iron fence.

This incident happened literally in my back yard.

While I have locked, on occasion, to a wrought iron fence due to no other good choices I certainly would not leave the bike unattended overnight in this neighborhood.  Heck, I'm surprised scrappers don't steal the whole fence overnight.   We've had incidents of brass toe-kicks being stolen off of doors for scrap value.

Even with a small place I wont leave a bike outside overnight.  i bring them all in and just find space inside for them -and deal with carrying them up and down the stairs.  My main city bike is 50lbs with locks and racks.  Even if there wasn't a theft problem leaving my bikes outside & exposed to the elements and perhaps even taggers to paint up is just not the way I treat my bikes.
