Anyone know the best alternative route since Kenmore at Loyola is under construction?

I turned left on Granville and took that to Glenwood and continued north

Is Glenwood a one way over there?   I do cheat sometimes and go the wrong way a couple of blocks.  There is just no alternative I have found, esp when you have to cross Ridge, etc.

I so WISH Glenwood would be a 2 way the entire length.  Maybe someday it will be...

Julie, Glenwood is two-way north of Ridge to I believe Pratt.

Jeff B probably has the best detour, unless you want to go the wrong way on Rosemont and Winthrop.

Sorry folks, but i think that end of Kenmore will be buggered up for quite some time to come.... i believe that the long range plan by Loyola is to eventually close Kenmore (and later, Winthrop) north of Granville as they plan to expand the campus. LU owns about half the builldings along those streets already.

Glenwood goes through okay, but it's awfully narrow and heavily trafficked N of Devon.

If you want to go through the Loyola Campus, you could jog along Rosemont and take one of the alleys either side of Kenmore and do a half-block run along the sidewalk on Sheridan... the alleys there are pretty heavily travelled during the day by the students who live in the dorms along Kenmore, but i don't recommend taking those alleys at night.

Crossing the campus is preferable to taking Sheridan under the tracks and 'round the curve -which i do see folks do, but Sheridan N of Devon is pretty nightmarish.

Crossing the campus during class change can be challenging training in ped-dodging... the students are all on their smart phones and steering by peripheral vision.

NB Sheridan north of Loyola av is a pretty good route to Evanston.

The best long-term solution....Sheridan Road Diet.

North of Devon, Yes.

South of Devon, I'd prefer Broadway. South of Devon, Broadway connects alot of commercial districts, whereas Sheridan is largely residential.

Back to the original discussion:

Glenwood north of Ridge is two way, low volume street. It's my favorite north-south street in Edgewater. You can take it to Arthur (1 block North of Devon) where you can navigate west/north to Pratt and Ashland. At which point you can take Ashland north all the way to Howard.

Glenwood is two-way north of Granville to Pratt, at which point it is one-way (sb); I don't find it too traffic heavy myself.  Its also my favorite north/south in that area; I just wish it didn't have that one-way stretch north of Pratt.  Pratt is good if you're headed west.  If you're going north of Pratt, take it west to Greenview.  You could do Greenview the whole way from Granville, but the pavement is terrible in spots up to Pratt.

I've generally found it a pleasant option, although I haven't seen pavement conditions on all the streets recently.
