No slippage on my way home for whatever reason (unstudded today) but I H A T E riding in these particular conditions. Limited to main streets, forced to take the lane, and very few drivers driving reasonably.

Two out of three cars screamed by with inches to spare.

"Take the lane" my ass.

My Yahoo Horoscope:

It might be too early for spring, but you should nevertheless get a real sense that something new is about to emerge from the drab landscape of your daily routine. Like a sweet little hopeful sapling, your attitude about where your life is going is climbing up toward the sky -- slowly but surely. Expressions of kindness will be blooming all around you as flowers do in spring. This day is an advanced look at the wonderful direction your life is going in.

Allrighty then.

Oui

A.M. commute, easy.

P.M. commute, CHALLENGE.  There were spots where I swear the bike knew the way.

Tonight was the limit for me, between the wind and lack of traction.

I'm with Howard, it was HATE.  I'm only smiling because bike and driver are in one piece.  ; )

Hope you are warm and in one piece too!

My ride home was the worst ride ever!!

I got on the Lakefront path at Oak and Michigan, no problem and got to about Fullerton before realizing I forgot my ID at work, so I turned around and rode back down the path to Michigan Ave to Erie.  It was actually pretty good having the tailwind take me back to work on a Friday evening.  Then things got bad.

I was biking down Michigan near watertower when a car just cut me off.  Needless to say I did not have enough time to brake in all that snow and ended up smashing into the trunk of the dude's car and almost got run over by a bus.  The crash knocked a few things out of alignment, but it looked rideable, so I continued on towards the path.  Unfortunately the crash moved my wheels out of place and I ended up dropping my chain twice.

I finally got home about an hour later than I normally did all wet and cold.  What a ride.

The bike from Pilsen to Evanstan to Logan Square was brutal.

Witnessed some 'bros' in a  large pack wearing nothing but jeans and button up stripey dressed shirts with their hands in their pockets wandering around looking for a bar. I wonder what lucky ladies are going to be sleeping with all of them tonight.

I am so sorry for you. What a dreadful story. Few things worse than dropping a chain mid-ride. Twice. Peace.

I think this is the best comment of the night! It really made me laugh.

Hells yeah! I loves this sh*t. I means snow.

A hug for pistola.

Great image on chicagweathercenter.com right now:

Coldest ride I have ever done. Main roads were awesome. Kinzie was okay in some spots, the bridge just sucked. Milwaukee was fine and Division was fine. Not fine were the drivers. It's 15F water on the road and they [drivers] STILL speed. UGHHHH.

The wind didn't make it any better.

Otherwise though, I had one too many layers on my torso. Still having issues keeping my feet from freezing. But I guess I should have wore my warmer socks ;) I'll have to remember those next time. Without my shoecovers, it probably would have been even worse. It WAS a good ride anyway.

Keep riding! :D

Thanks for all the positive comments about my bikes!

Yep I rode to today,

Left for work around 1 o'clock big puffy flakes roads just wet.

Coming home around 10:30pm snow had stopped, took all surface streets

No traffic to speak of which is a big help.

17 degrees and a 25mph NW wind makes for hard work. Still having fun!

Some pics cutting through Winnemac park

Yeah it was pretty non-pleasant in the evening. I still took mostly side streets, but they were pretty bad. The worst bit was on the 18th St bridge - going west, just past the pretty slippery metal grate section there was an intense wind bouncing off the building that abuts the bridge - crazy hard wind that stopped me in my tracks for a moment.

But still, riding was better than taking the CTA.
