The Loop Gets Its First Bike Lane!

I rode the madison lane again. I'm pretty accustomed to riding around the loop, and didn't find this bike lane to be of much use. With a lane on each side of you it just doesn't leave you anywhere to go should you need to dodge something. I wonder why we just don't have bike/bus lanes instead of having this bike lane right next to a bus lane.

Based on the view from my office window, the lane has been extended at least to Wacker.

Is this cyclist on his phone?...or holding his jaw from getting doored?

Definitely better than nothing, but it's not ideal. Lots of crisscrossing and drifting of vehicles from both sides.

Will be very interested to see how it affects cyclist behavior vis-a-vis buses. At a glance it seems like it ought to improve things . . .
