Oh goody, more drama.

Oh-oh...

Gah, just saw the other discussion. Should have just replied there. Yikes. Didn't mean to stir the pot.

Granted, I only recently found out about TyK and the CWHC, but I read the article and I'm still confused as ever.  Where did the money go?  Why are people so upset?  Why am I concerning myself with this?  Bah, time to log off the internet.

I think the money went to printing the calendar (and whatever other production costs) and left over is going to her new venture (and maybe also the future of TyK).

This does not come as a surprise to a lot of people. I have had many friends involved in tyk and have always thought they could have better spent their time.

There are a lot of questions that needed to be raised and when Sandra did privately with Alexis, she was meet with no response and rude emails. I can attest to this I have seen both emails.

At best Alexis didn't mean to misquide anyone and didn't fully publish here plans for this year on the main sites and wasn't dillegent in correcting these misconceptions.

At worst Alexis knew that people were giving their time and money to support the Women's health center and did nothing to correct their misconceptions and benifited from this.

The truth is probably somewhere between the two.

This doesn't cover the fact that either CWHC didn't contact Alexis as Alexis says or Alexis never contacted CWHC as CWHC says. Both can't be true. Or the fact that all the work done by these women and products donated will be supporting other towns, not Chicago, where they live and work.

Over the years there has been a good bit more that has made people concerned about tyk and not support it. Including how it started, how the women are protrayed in the calander and the person running it.

Lastly I think a few of your comments in the past thread are pretty unfair. Sandra had donated her time and was upfront about what she thought it was going to and based on the history of tyk had plenty of reasons to believe she was right. It should now be appearent that other people had the same feelings and beliefes that Sandra had. She only went public when she was not getting answers privately, which few people wanted to do.

To Dug, in the last thread you insinuted that Sandra had accused Alexis of skipping town and taking all the money. "Missing info is one thing; turning your missing info into a plot for the person in charge to skip the state with the profits is an entirely different thing."  This "plot" was first stated sarcasticly by Kevin C. Sandra never accused her of stiffing people. She stated that the money is leaving Chicago, which by the kickstarter page is correct, and wanted to know how it was being spent. As you said "it always amazes how people are willing to make the worst assumptions about stuff when they are just to lazy to go out and read the information available to them." Especially when it is one page prior.

Corrections: when I said "both emails" I meant both side of the emails. There was more than 2.
Sorry for any spelling errors.

If memory serves me right the on air announcements about the calendar on chirp radio DID mention the women's health center. Has anyone else heard them?

I could be wrong. I wrote chirpradio and asked them. I'll post when they reply.

I am all about critical thinking and all I know that after reading all the hostility from the Finch supporters maybe they should maybe look at it from a different point of view.

It has been made pretty clear over the years that the pinups (whether you agree that they HELP women or are just some glorious excuse to be bike suicide girls) have been linked to the Women's Health Center.

You can throw the explanations from the TyK web pages (and whatever this Kickstart thing is supposed to be and I am not even sure what this Monthly Cycle thing is either) at us, and even after reading it twice I am not really sure what it is funding or how it is supposed to help women issues with biking.

The bottom line is, from this perspective and Sandra's, that it is the impression that the money was going to where it had always been going and that the community at large was under that same impression. I was even under that impression and frankly, because of all this, I am not buying one (more because I think the money should have stayed with CWHC, but whatever).

If i was volunteering for this thing I would want to know exactly where the cash is going, especially if you are using my likeness as the basis of your personal mission to fix womens issues in cycling.

Also, if i was supporting this as a sponsor I would certainly expect something more professional from the person promoting it by making it very clear where the cash was not going this year. If I had dropped some bank on this, even as a friend helping a friend, I certainly would be able to understand the dismay at one of the people volunteering and getting told at the last minute that the thing i was working with wasn't even close to what I was under the impression it was.

As for the communication with CWHC? I at least called the CWHC more than once to make sure they were on board with where I was going with a project that had been linked to my named so intimately. It certainly would be better than reading a WBEZ blog about how she didn't call at all.

So, yeah, Sandra, and any of the others working on that pinup who were surprised at where the money was going, have the right to be a little pissed. And if I was friends (or a sponsor or good intentioned whatever) with TyK I should be able to see that side of the issue and not just blindly spout off and stick up for something that obviously could have been prevented and THAT leaves everyone with the impression that foul play is/was/maybe/not involved.

Everyone, have a pleasant evening...

I just want a calendar with REAL Chicago women who ride bikes on my shop wall with autographs to show my coworkers that everyone can and should ride.

Hmmm.... You mean pictures of the women as they are or pictures of REAL women.  Because I'm pretty sure I'm a real person and pretty sure I was in the calendar.  Thanks.

I want to state, for the record, that I (and I believe many, if not all, of the other 2009 girls) agreed to be in the inaugural calendar without knowing where the money we raised would be going. Shit, we didn't even know that we WOULD raise any money!!

I'm really excited about The Monthly Cycle. I think it's a phenomenal, necessary idea, and it stays true to my understanding of Thought You Knew: empowering women to feel sexy and confident with their bicycles. I'm all for happy, healthy vaginas, and I don't have anything against the CWHC, but I'm definitely glad that this year's calendar proceeds will be used to support women in cycling.

much love,

miss february 2009
