I saw a possum when I was commuting back from the Loop on Saturday around 5:15 pm. just south of McCormick Place where it levels off. It was just about to cross the bike path from the east. Sorry no pix. What else has anyone seen out there?

Saw a white Fox on Winnetka Rd @ between Hibbard and Ridge Ave in Early Nov at around 4am. It was for a sure a fox and not a coyote. White and Not Red. Dig
I've seen a coyote over at northerly island last summer while doing intervals in the evening. I've also seen a snowy owl at night over at the point by hyde park a few winters back. Rabbits and the occasional raccoon are moderately frequent on the lakefront as well.
There is a dead possum on the path in that same location... I wonder if it's the same little guy.
if the nw burbs count, I've seen countless deer, a coyote, random assorted fowl and a few foxes, rabbits, etc.

the skunk was the scariest one though...
My last roadkill

On the north end - Deer (near Kenilworth) , rabbit (enough for quite a few meals...but I haven't been that adventurous), skunk (wilmette/evanston & northern burbs), raccoon, possum. I haven't stuck around Wisconsin or the north Illinois woods long enough to find out if I will see some of the rare and more exotic bear, cougar (mountain lions), or wolves.
I saw some deer just chilling in front of someone's house one summer night when I was heading back home through Wilmette. I didn't think they were real until I saw a driver's camera flash go off. (No, they weren't driving and taking pictures at the same time.)
At some point this winter I observed a small doe eating from someone's yard in the Pullman / Calumet Park area. I have no idea how she got in there - maybe she was airlifted in. She was very still and simply walked away. Then, just as she was about to scurry off for good, she turned and looked right at me as if to say "what's up".
She probably got there the same way the deer in SE Evanston and East Rogers Park did - walking along the railroad tracks. Seems likely that's the same way the coyotes have gotten into the Loop in recent years.

We see lots of rabbits in Beverly. I've heard from friends that some folks have seen coyotes around Dan Ryan Woods, but I haven't seen them myself.

He was not moving very swiftly. I'll look tomorrow.

This evening when I went to take the trash out I was greeted with a possum in the garbage can. So I grabbed the baseball bat and the flashlight and kicked the can over, then scared him away. I usually like animals, but I'm getting really sick of finding torn trash bags spilled everywhere and ever bigger holes in my garbage can...
dont set me on fire for this..

but i was driving home from working at mccormick a little before thanksgiving-- actually pulling onto LSD off of 31st st and i saw a red fox scheming a way across the drive.. he got about 2 lanes in and turned back to the shoulder. as i drove past him he was watching the car traffic, i would assume he was waiting for an opening.
