The Chainlink

While listening to to the Waddle and Silvy Show from 9 to 1 pm on 06/07/11 on ESPN radio I got to hear how fun it would be if they intentionally doored cyclists and how sometimes that would just feel great. This went on for about 20 minutes.

Well I didn't think that would be great. And as some may know I'm vocal. ;-) So I tried  tweeting with Silvy @WaddleandSilvy for those that tweet and he said that the best course of action would be to send an e-mail to: waddleandsilvy@espnchicago.com

The Apology we got on 06/08/11 was a joke. Happened 45 minutes into the show and was terrible.

At the bottom of Espn.com there is also a Contact Us that goes to corporate vs the address above that is only read by the show hosts. We need to get on this!

If you wanna hear the comments they have a podcast http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?callsign=WMVPA... . and it happens about 2 hours 14 minutes into the show if memory serves. Started out with making fun of spandex shorts and then went on to murder.

In light of the fact that ESPN already had Tony Kornheiser voice his opinions on cyclists I doubt they are looking for more trouble so it would be a good time to get the message out. Watch out for us! Dooring Can KILL us! etc...

And Here is a list of sponsors of Waddle and Silvy: They should hear about our  displeasure as well!

Performance Bikes!!! Harris Bank, Golfsmith, Jimmy Johns (they do bike deliveries, hello!), John Chico's Men's Wear, Triton College, Wells Fargo, PNC Bank, Ameristar, Home Depot, Johnsonville, Gerber Collision & Glass, Studio 41 Remodelling,

Well said Joe.
I emailed them last night and told them they had opened themselves to potential liability by suggesting their thousands of listeners engage in a criminal activity by intentionally dooring cyclists.
good job, gabe and joe, and anyone else who submitted emails. let em know we stand up
the apology had so many butts i thought i was in a strip club. my next e-mail will be to Espn corp as well. and i had thought of the e-mails to sponsors thing. i've listened to waddle and silvy for a long time cause i drive a truck and need entertainment. no more til we get proper action.

i don't know who taught tom waddle how to apologize but they should be ashamed. an apology followed by a but is no apology at all.

correct action is an appropriate apology and some sort of sign of good will that shows he's willing to learn that his perspective is incorrect.
Done.

Tom Waddle and

Mark Giangreco are dipshits for making jokes about dooring. what assholes!

Making fun of spandex shorts... um, isn't that what football players wear?

Unreal that they actually thought it was okay to suggest it then come off with a half assed apology.

I would imagine the most effective way of actually getting something done would be to write the hosts a letter, and CC the program's manager, ESPN customer relations, and a couple representatives of their sponsors.  You need to make it very obvious that the extra names are.  I'd open the letter something like,

CC: Guy 1, Show Manager

CC: Guy 2, ESPN Title Here

CC: Company Rep 1 and Name, Show Sponsor

CC: Company Rep 2 and Name, Show Sponsor

CC: Company Rep 3 and Name, Show Sponsor

Host 1 & 2,

I was listening to your show on ___ and was appalled at your condoning of attempting to murder cyclists through the act commonly known as "dooring" ....

The e-mail directly to the show is easy. It's the e-mails above that I'm having an issue finding. On ESPN.com they have a form you can fill out that I assume gets filed in a drawer. Was pointed out to me that BikeSnobNYC tweeted a link to this discussion. Could help with getting attention.

Nice to know that BSNYC does read his email. I emailed him this morning and mentioned this thread.

Now, if only we could get ESPN to read their email...

Thanks Duppie! :-)

To be fair, spandex and nuFred is not at all off the table to make fun of...

But dooring is not funny.
