Big bike weekend! Who's joining us at the Chicago Cycle Swap on Saturday??

It's a big weekend for bicyclists with the Bicycle Film Festival starting Thursday, the West Town Bikes Winter Meltdown Friday and the Chicago Cycle Swap on Saturday.

Stay safe out there while having fun, Chainlinkers. Don't forgot your $5 off coupon for the Swap.

Keep the rubber side down,

Ethan, with Active Trans

PS: we're still looking for some volunteers for the Swap, you can get in free by offering your services.

I bought my first cycling cap from Erin! I'll post a picture.  So excited!

Had a great time! And a great winter ride afterwards!

Bought some awesome handmade, organic soap from Alewyfe, watched the Racketeers rock it out, friend bought a great Arctic from Paul Murphy, basement bike-builder and great guy, talked and met with lots of awesome people, and got my buddies to join ActiveTrans as members. Success!

This was an event for the community, by the community, and I thought it was perfect.

That's who I bought my pink mixte from! He was SO nice.

Great event. My heart got all sappy when I saw all the locked bikes circling the field house in the snow.

Great show!  I saw an amazing range of bikes, accessories, services and organizations represented.  Checked out some excellent presentations.  Had a lot of great conversations.  Enjoyed some good food and beer.

I had a lot of fun and had so many conversations that I've barely got any voice left.  Zzzzzz...... Thanks again for doing such an excellent job in putting it together.

Me too! It's so comfy and warm.

Thanks again Erin! And thank you so much to Jami for the amazing brachiosaurus. My kid is over the moon with it.

Then shut the fuck up and do it.

Remember, if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem; you are such a great cyclist and promoter you can do it better than do it, otherwise you are just a whining malcontent.

I went to the swap today and thought it was wonderful.  full of great Chicago vendors and organizations with fantastic presentations with many good deals to be had.  I give huge props to the people who made it happen.

Very lame line up of vendors and the show in general...

This Active Trans Alliance is not doing a good job. They are just sucking fed, city and state money to feed themselves, not the cycling community.

I could promote and produce a better cycle trade show here in Chicago in a heart beat.

Thanks for sharing these!

Great swap! Well done and the Pulaski Field house was nice and spacious.
I thought the swap was great. My friend and I managed to make it a little bit before it was over with and even though it was at the end of a long day everyone was friendly and in good spirits. Great job everyone.
That's our little future cyclist! Thanks for the pic! Also, while we watched the Racketeers performance, she said to us "I want to dance like those girls!" She really enjoyed the show and the people- we had a great time.  We also found a great way to transport her from watching the car-free with kids presentation...time to get that pillow on the back rack.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped put this together and who showed up to help out or hang out!

Specifically, a big hug to our impresario, Howard Kaplan from Bike Winter for pulling together all the presentations (including the debut of the Racketeers!), an awesome demo area and tons of volunteers to help run the event.

We'll definitely do this again next year and will keep everyone posted about our results and donation to our wonderful partner, Bike Winter.

Also, a vendor and participant survey will come later this week so we can make improvements for next year.

Rough numbers:

More than 1,000 people through the door (not including vendors, volunteers)

More than 50 bike shops, merchants, nonprofits, balloon twisters, etc.

55+ Active Trans memberships sold

Good times had by almost everyone

Sincerely,

All of us at Active Trans
